Default fuel pump wiring...size/routing

For a 1st gen Fbody did folks route the wiring thru the car or along the frame rail? What gauge wiring did most folks use? I was thinking 12-14 gauge wiring?

You could use 14 or 16 to operate the relay, but I would run 10 gauge to power the pump. Any smaller and you'll get a lot of voltage drop.

+1 on one LS1MCSS said.. Check into a Racetronix wiring and relay harness, great setup that uses the Alternator to feed the power to the relay and the PCM to activate the Relay. I have one of there harness, great stuff !

10 Gauge it is! Did you route through the trunk or along the fuel rail?

I ran my fuel pump wire through the firewall and then along side the factory tail light and fuel level sender wires (inside the car down the left side), and then in the trunk ran it through same gromet as the fuel sender.

You don't need 10 guage to power a fuel pump. Mine is fused with a 7.5 amp fuse.

Of course using larger than needed won't hurt anything but your wallet.

I ran 10awg 600v copper house wiring. I see 14.4v all day long at my fuel pump. It just creates less of a voltage drop. I ran a hot and a ground to make sure it would get a good voltage as i was worried about fuel starvation with only a 97gph pump but its working fine. I also ran mine like rodder did with the signal wires except that i ran mine though the trunk pan where my pump mounts.
