Default How rare are the 6 speed convertibles???

When I was looking a few months ago, it seems like every single convertible I ran across was an automatic. I finally found my 1998 Z28, 6 speed in really nice shape for a good price($7800).

Post up if you have a six speed drop top. I'm thinking only about 1/4 or less of the drop tops had the manual trans.

You can check the link in my sig for the numbers, but generally the ratio of M6 'verts to A4 'verts ranges from ~ 1:4 to 1:2 depending on year. I encountered a similar problem searching for my 1st 4th gen 'vert w/ M6 ('94 Z28), but persistence and patience pays off. They are out there.

Fellow gear smasher here. I actually stumbled across my 6-speed convertible when I was looking for a 6-speed T-Top car. I test drove it and fell in love with it. T-Tops are great, but nothing like a convertible.

I was looking for a 6 speed convertible for months before I found the right one.

They are harder to find in virgin condition, but they are still out there.

That's exactly what happened to me. I couldn't find a clean low mile t-top car with a 6 speed so I got a vert. Nothing like a vert on summer evenings!

That's funny, I was looking for a hardtop/t-top car, then I found the convertible that I wanted for a good price. It had the two options that were mandatory: white paint and T-56 manual.

Yeah man I looked forever and almost considered buying a Mustang because I wanted a straight shift convertible and then I found my current Camaro. Its a blast banging gears in a vert especially after the cam swap!

Only 799 ws6 convertibles out there in 2001 and I would think that less than 50% are manuals.I know mine is one of 85 navy blue metallic WS6 verts,no breakdown on manuals vs autos.

Found mine in the normal dream come true. Some old guy trying to get rid of it after his grandson messed up the front left corner. He had it fixed and it sat for 2 years. 48000 miles on it, got it for 6800. Saved so much money buying the car I had plenty for some upgrades and its been love ever since.

You are close but here are some 2001 numbers from High Performance Pontiac magazine (JAN 2002). 796 WS6 convertibles produced with 280 being 6 speeds.
There were also 396 regular Trans Am convertibles built in 2001 with only 81 being 6 speeds. Some really low production numbers.

You are right ,I was mistaken with my numbers.According to andrea at ASC there were 779 ws6 convertibles made,280 six speeds and 516 autos. Regular ta convertibles were 81 6 speeds and 315 autos. Andrea worked at asc which did the ws6 conversions for gm. These numbers are for the 2001 models only. Color breakdowns for ws6 verts are as follows, white 76 verts, pewter 129 verts, navy blue metallic 85 verts, black 260 verts, sunset orange metallic 37 verts, red 192 verts. These numbers are from ls1.com from july and october of 2001.

Same here. I was looking for a NBM 6-speed 'bird with tan interior, but it had to be stock and unmolested, and reasonably low miles. It just happened that the first one I found (that didn't have a Barret-Jackson pricetag) was a convertible. I never even thought about getting a convertible, but now I'm hooked!

I bought an A4 then swapped the T56 in myself

Now it's back to A3 and has a 12-point cage!

You have a beautiful stock example. Not many left.

I've got a stock z28 6-speed ragtop and love it. I've made only minor changes like cat back, subframe connectors, lid and removed the 1st - 4th shift (I forget what that's called).
