Default Roll cage question.

I just ad a company order the bars to do a 4 point roll cage in my 1999 Z28 vert. It's the main hoop and 2 down bars. My question is, should I put an X in-between the 2 down bars or just leave it plain. I know it would be just for looks and non functional but I wondered if it would look good or not.

Also this place I'm getting it done at is Holtz welding & fabrication
They are charging me 400 parts and labor but I have to pull the interior. They have an AWESOME reputation here in Ft. Myers FL. So that's why I went with them. Just lettin u guys know where Im getting it done and for how much.

$400 parts and labor sounds like a good deal if they do a good job. You might want to put a horizontal bar across the hoop for seatbelt attachment.

$400 dollars sounds like a pretty good deal to me too. Not remembering what I paid off the top of my head... I'd have to search for receipts. But here is an example of what my 4pt roll bar looks like for you. May be easier to visualize the X in the bars with a picture.

I have the harness bar at home in the garage if I ever decide to add it...probably would if I do the door bars too.

What's the point in a 4pt rollbar?

Why not add door bars and crossbar and at least have some functional use to it?

$400 is a pretty standard rate($100/point).

^^^Exactly....yet I'm nowhere near that for now since I only have the 6 cylinder engine still. I figured no point in having door bars and maybe the rest of the halo until after I finish my engine build.

Well im not made of money fellas. Thats why I didnt do the rest of it. However I will have a nice starting point so when I do get some more money I can just have them add to it. Im much faster than a 13 second 1/4 mile. Our track here doesnt care about the NHRA rules but for my own saftey I would like to have something between me and the pavement in the event of a crash. The roll bar will be better than nothing. I think it would look killer on the car too. I dont see how the roll bar would be pointless at all. ESP. in a convertible where you have NO protection.

They are welding in the cross bar to hold the seatbelts and all that.

They said they would put the X bars in for free too so thats why I was throwing the idea around. My worry is that the down bars will be too close together so if I put an X in it, it would look a little stupid.

Car guy 24, Thanks for the pic. It looks killer. I bet when you cruise with the top down people stare you down lol.

Thanks man and yes I do get many stares. Kinda sucks when I talk to people and they find out I only have a 6 cylinder engine but like you said I didn't have money or need for more points so it was a good starting point. Found my receipts too... i ended up paying roughly 200 for the material and 500 for install including having it painted and I didn't have to remove interior. Downside was to save money I told the guy to take his time and it took him 2 months to do it but I was in college so I wouldn't of been driving it much anyways and I didn't have time to do it myself.

I agree with you, I think putting the X in it wouldnt look too good. But then again its your car and IMO you can do what you think looks good.
Heres a couple pics of mine:
