Firebrian and JohnnyBs98WS6Rag, excellent posts that may just save someone's life. 10 years is the max life for any tire that is driven at interstate speeds unless you like to gamble with property and lives. Local driving or 45 mph car show driving is another matter where you can maybe squeak in another few years. There are numerous stories of catastrophic incidents on old tires and I personally am familiar with a local car club member that also blew out his fender on the way home from a purchase (tires were 20+ years old).
I just bought a '74 AMC Matador X with 12 year old BFG tires that had 2,000 miles on them. Looked brand new. Do you think I'm going to worry about tire failure with the new expensive paint job this baby is currently undergoing? No chance. My first item I bought for the X was a fresh set of BFG white lettered tires. When I head to Charlotte or Atlanta during the hot 90 degree summer months, driving the super heated interstates at 70 MPH, the last thing I need is a tire failure. The best $600 you can spend. I've been the same with my T/A too even though the tires are slightly more pricey.

I voted 1 or 2 mods. I currently have subframe connectors and a roll bar in my car. It is stock crappy 3.4L V6 with 5 speed manual transmission but I have a v8 tore apart right now waiting to be reassembled to go in the car. Probably will be going 6 speed with it when it goes in...unless there is someone who can build the T5 transmission to handle around 450hp.

Mine was bone stock when I got her in 2000. Stayed that way for about 6 months and then I was attacked by the mod-bug. Started off with a Dynomax rear muffler, then ZR1 wheels and tires.
Now about the only original part on the car is the body. Everything has been changed, at least once. Now putting money together to put a 6-point cage and some other goodies in her. IT NEVER ENDS!!!!! LOL

Mine was stock for the first 12-1/2 of the 15 years I've owned it. It now has 52,000 miles on the clock and has been cammed and pro charged for almost 2 years. Now I have an ERL 427 with twin turbonetics billet 7575's sitting and waiting on my huron speed twin turbo kit to be delivered... That's why I polled... "Stock what"! Lol... Nothing like pulling up next to ricer junk and mustangs with a giggle and laughing at them with enough *** to back it up!!!

Not here. No stock for me. 388ci stroked 300 shot ready, currently running 150, 9 inch rear w/3.73 gears, 4L80 w/manual valve body, every bolt on zr1 wheels 17"x9.5"/17"x11" Nitto 555R &555DR, C5Z06 brake upgrade. What's stock have to do with it? Clean inspected in Texas and street mannered w/3600 stall. 6's on motor in 8th.

My wife's 2001 Convertible was 100% stock until I threw the candy corn GM taillights on it last fall. I had originally got them for my Onyx Black SS, but then decided that they looked better on her SOM convertible. It will eventually be modded more, like adding an SS grille to it (wasn't ordered with that originally), but the mods are going to be more SLP oriented, items that should have been ordered on the car, but weren't.

I keep mine relatively stock - and anything I replace I keep so I can always revert back to stock. I like modding that modernizes the car a bit, but keeps the original look. I like people to look at my car and think it looks great, but not really know why since it's still basically stock looking to the untrained eye.
And, I totally get wanting to keep it stock for comfort's sake. While I'd love a ground pounding power machine, I use the car mostly as a cruiser with some spirited driving. Stock LS1 is fun to row through the gears on, and still enough to get me into trouble. It's reliable, has a nice exhaust note, and isn't irritating. I actually really like the sound of the stock SS/WS6 catback - I now plan on keeping mine. May upgrade the tips though.
It's a daily struggle to not mod it for more power, but thus far I've succeeded. Everything I have been doing is for comfort and appearance thus far.

i still have my stock chrome 16" wheels w gforce 2's, they remind me of hotwheels when i was a kid. last fall just added my torque converter but i havent had it tuned yet so i think it runs ruff especially with 2:73's. i will probably head to dyno day in may , curious as to my simulated quarter mile time.

I'll chime in. Have been off the forum for the winter. 1-2 mods ?
My 98 has non-original tires (recently replaced) and the exhaust was converted from single to dual with added flow master by previous owner. Also it has a K&N air filter....oh yea I did swap out the speakers so I guess technically it is more than 1-2 mods. Prefer keeping it as close to stock as possible but don't mind the minor exhaust mod.

Well, as luck would have it, my LF tire went flat over the winter. I pumped it back up w/ air and it held until I got it out just a few weeks ago. Figured it might just be a leaky valve stem. First drive to work slowing down to a stoplight I heard a "tic-tic-tic...", rolled down the window to hear it better and as I slowed it went from "tic-tic-tic....." to "psssst........ psssst........ psssst......". Sure enough it was going flat again, turned around immediately and got it back to my garage. Hope it was just a nail, took the tire off and pumped air back into it to look for the leak. Found it at a ~3/4" long crack in the rubber at the crown deep in the tread. Then I noticed several more similar looking cracks in similar locations. DONE, time for new tires. Running some fresh BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2s (original size) now.
New rubber is such a 'peace of mind' thing too. Who wants to worry about it when you get the urge for some spirited driving.
