Default Heads for my setup

I need suggestions for heads given my setup. This is for a 98 C5 6 speed. I'd like to stay around $1,500 or less. I'm looking for power under already have spings/pushrods. Whats the next step up from LS6 heads? Patriot, PRC? Should I just get the LS6 heads? Also, my friend doing the install has LS7 lifters, is there any benefit of using these in my car?

AFR 205's.

Not your budget, I know but,...take it from a douchebag thats spent alot of money, more then once, on the same products.... then ended up buying what I really wanted in the end.

Any of the heads you mentioned would work but, the 205's would rock that setup of yours pretty well.

Those AFR's are tempting... must resist lol. Would there be any benefit of using ls7 lifters? My buddy has them sitting in his shop.

AFR 205's.

V-series has some for sale. Budget heads are your "as-cast" heads that are ported. A good majority use the PRC 2.5 LS6 heads. They are in the $1500. With those heads, you get a .5 compression bump. You would end up with a 25-30 whp increase with those heads. Your higher dollar heads : AFR, TFS, will net you quite a bit more than the as-cast selections. Not to mention, AFR 205's are emissions legal if that is a factor.

Oh yea, the LS7 lifters are a good upgrade for the valvetrain. You being a 98', I would suggest swapping them out for the LS7's. I use em, along with 90% of people on this forum.

Thanks for the info. I'm liking the prc heads. Texas speed offers them in LS6 or 5.3. Whats better?
