People blow the "oil consumption" issue WAY out of proportion. Its not like it will take a quart every 3 or 4 days. Not even noticeable. I've never heard of anyone having the problem so bad that it was a serious issue. Don't worry about what people say about the 01's. If you plan on modding it, it is the best year to buy due to the cheaper cost. And the arctic white!

2001 Z06... your thoughts??
I think the 2001 Z06 Corvette is a Beautiful Car,
Remember it was the 1st car built of the series !
Kind of a cool feature about the car and it's legacy continues
I have a 03 blk Z06 Corvette and I Love the car,
I like the car more now than the day I bought it,
It's one thing that I have bought that wound up being nicer than I thought it was than the day I bought it. lol
If your car had ring, oil ect: problems they would have shown up by now
But my thinking is so some of the 01 Z06's used alittle oil .. So WHat !
Alot of cars use alittle oil Bmw's, I've seen porsche's leak like a ceave
So don't let alittle oil scare you away and Seek an inspection by a Pro Mechanic unless he's cutting you a extra sweet deal.
The car is amazing
Bon

I just bought my 01 Speedway White Z06 less than a week ago. I didnt really have a choice as for the year because I wanted a FRC body and I wanted a white one. The y made FRCs in 1999 and 2000 and made about 330 of them each year, 2001 was the only year they made a Z06 in white and they made 324 IIRC.
That being said I am crazy about the car. I have my trans am still which I am putting back to stock to sell but the vette is just a different world. It handles great, has good power and is smooth. One thing I did notice on mine is that is it is a late 2001 and im told they are better than an early 01. I would have bought it either way.

nice pickup! ive had my eye on a speedway white one as well but the guy was asking waaaay too much, granted they're rare but he was far left field with his. and i totally agree, a little oil here and there wont hurt, heck, i recently got a high mileage honda as my commuter and that thing pretty much fills up with oil as much as gas ,well not really ... but it'll burn at least 1/4 quart per fill up, but hey its a honda, nothing can be as bad as that. haha

: For those of you who are new to the C5/Z06 world...
The book... "All Corvettes are Red"
is a great read.
It tells the story about the C5 Corvette development and the inner workings at GM during that time period.
I've just finished re-reading the book and the C5 Corvette was a remakable achievement for GM.

I would keep looking...I purchased an 01 Z06 red in June. I paid 18k, clear title. The car came to me with roughly 46k miles on it.
Only issues I've had were the oil pressure sensor going out (still need to replace that) and some ******* keying the hood. I daily drive it and it has about 52k or so miles on it now.

Oh and I had my low oil light come on ONCE. I have changed the oil and used a bit more oil from then on and never had an issue again with that. The car doesn't seem to burn it as bad as everyone says. Maybe half a quart in 3k miles?
