Don't forget that a lot of the power the LS7 makes is because it's dry sump. Dry sump frees up a lot of power lost from crank slapping in the oil and crank case pressure being relieved.

I think you'd lose about 40-50HP with a wet-sump LS7.

I don't know if you'd lose that much keeping a wet sump Where you are going to lose power is if you go with the LS3 heads and intake. If you're that concerned with making Z like power...Save up and put an LS7 head and intake on it or go with the FAST 102 if you are only planning on running a mild cam.

I'm pretty sure that the wet-sump vs dry sump on the LS7 makes that much difference. Keep in mind it's spinning faster.

Either way, yes, there's the difference in heads and intake as well. Also, the exhaust manifolds are pretty gnarly on the LS7.

There are several cam only LS3s out these @ 500 rwhp so I bet with a bigger cam he will make good power. Stock for stock the LS7 only makes about 60-75 rwhp more than a LS3.
My LS3 Dynoed 378 stock and my ls7 did 445. My LS3 was an auto though.

I agree but Hinson made a LS3 based 427ci that punted out 600rwhp in a RX7. With the right cam you should have a pretty stout setup. I think LS7 heads still are kinda $$$ so it may not be worth it.
