Default 05-06 c6????

Why is it that most people recommend staying away from the 05-06 model C6 vettes? All i have heard is a weak tranny for the autos. Please list any other items that are problematic. Thanks!

istn't it just the same reason they say to stay away from all first model years?

I don't think GM changed the tranny in the c6's at all.....

I've read anecdotally that the early year C6 rear ends are not as strong.

It's only the 05s with the weak rear end. The 06s are OK. There's nothing wrong with the 06 C6. Some people stay away because it's the first year with the 6L80, but it's a good transmission and with some tuning from Chuck COW, it's even better. I have a friend with an 06 and it's great. He did complain about the AH software and he turns it off, but it's something that can be fixed easily. From what I understand, GM is supposed to reflash the AH to the newer software.

Edit: Also, the 05's (unlikely the 06s) are still susceptible to the Column Lock issue if it's a manual that all the manual C5s had.

Neither the 2005s nor the 2006s have what one might call a weak transmission. But the rear differential in the 2005s has been known to let loose once in a while but that's mostly only on the manual equipped models.

Yeah. They fixed that for the 06 models.

I believe the reason why they made you put the car in reverse was because they had a battery drain issue.

I park my car in reverse anyway because it's good habit. But 05's had some issues. That's for sure.
