Default First time Vette buyer looking for advice

A buddy of mine called me on Sunday and told me he found a 2001 Silver ZO6 with 100k on it at a firm price of $12,500. The car is all stock, no accident history, has memory package with electrochromic mirrors. Should I pull the trigger for the price and is there anything else I should be looking for? I do not know all the ins and outs of these cars yet so I am looking for your advice.

I also checked out the Corvette FAQ and browsed corvette forum. I am really thinking about picking this up due to price. I would love a low mileage 03 Electron Blue ZO6 but its double the price.

Thats a pretty resonable price, especially for a Z06, Ive seen a few with that milage go from 11.5-15K.

I paid 12,600 for my 2000 FRC with 94K.

More money is usually had for the 02-04 they had a better cam profile etc, making 405hp vs 385hp iirc. I am not 100% on what they changed on the Z06 from 01-02+

I got pretty lucky on mine no major issues, needed an AC tensioner pulley, which I had laying around, Oil pressure sender (common problem) and only 35 bucks.

Seems like a really good price to me. There are a few differences between the '01 and '02 but if you're going to mod then it really doesn't matter. Only real downside to the '01 is that some had ring issues. You're still getting a C5Z with the MN12 trans, 243 heads and LS6 intake. Here's what I found for the exact difference b/w '01 and '02:

This upgrade to the LS6 engine's output is the result of new hollow stem valves, a higher-lift camshaft, a low restriction mass air flow (MAF) sensor and a new low restriction air cleaner design. Eliminating the PUP converter from the exhaust system enables better flow of spent gasses and reduces vehicle weight, without compromising Corvette's NLEV (National Low Emission Vehicle) status.

CAMJAG its funny you mentioned the electron blue Z06. A few months ago my next door neighbor called me and asked "hey bro do you have $7000 bucks on you" of course I was like WTF. Well a friend of his got in trouble with the law and was selling everything including his house and a bad *** 2002 electron blue ZO6 with h/c/i/e and 28,000 miles on the clock. Well needless to say by the time I got to the bank and to this guys house the car was sold. I was so pissed off i couldnt make this deal happen. Sorry for the highjack guys carry on.

I also forgot to mention that the guy who bought the car lives about 1/2 mile from my house! I was in my 2009 vette the other day when I saw him on the road and decided to do a 30 roll. Well needless to say he handed my *** to me by a few bus lenghts LOL. All I have done to my car is a intake, exhaust and a tune.

Thats the cheapest Z06 I've heard of.
If it's in good condition, I'm surprised it's still there

Damn...now that would've been one hell of a deal! You basically described my car (I have 32K miles now) and $7K would be a ridiculously good price!
