01 zo6 or 04 coupe?
One of my buddys is going to look at a couple of corvettes today and he has narrowed it down to a stock 01 zo6 or a full bolt on 04 coupe. Both a M6's and both have around 50k miles. He told me the coupe was apparently putting down around 400 rwhp. I told him to go with the z. What do you guys think.

Hum, i always prefer the coupe. The body lines flow better with the rear glass.
Remember the 01 zo6 has 385 hp, thats about 350 at the wheels. 02 and up have 405hp.
400 at the wheels sounds about right, i have an 01 coupe, 6 speed, big cam and headers and im at 423 at the wheels. With a nice flat torque curve.
If he gets the coupe, make sure he does some traffic test driving with ac on and stuff to make sure it has a solid tune, no bucking or surging stuff like that. And try to find out who the tuner is for future upgrades.
Tell him enjoy!

Z06 anyday of the week. Hold value better, looks much better IMO, little more rare, few more niceties, more power right off the bat. Many reasons to prefer the 01 over the coupe. To me, it wouldn't matter price or miles within reason. No offense to anyone but i don't think the coupes are very good looking.

Over time the resale isnt really a factor. Here kelley blue for both cars same miles and same condition
Zo6... Retail $15,000 private part $12,000
Coupe. Retail $14,000 private party $ 11,000
01 up coupes have the zo6 intake, and 85mm MAF

So he bought the coupe..Its a nice car. Lemans blue, some kind of mild cam, fast 102 mani and TB, BBK LT's, Corsa exaust, wilwood brakes on all corners, C6 wheels and I think its got an K&N duel cone intake. He got it from buyavette.net. I got to drive the car and I wasnt to impressed. We ended up playing around a little bit and lined them up. By the time I grabed third gear I was 3-4 cars ahead and pullin hard. The car in my sig is what I was driving. He claims they're coming to get the car today to "retune" it. He was saying the ac wont work at idol and the fans aren't coming on. After finance he payed like 30k. I would have NEVER bought a car for that price that wasnt perfect. My 10k formula is just fine for me..BTW thanks on the replys.

What! Holy crap. 30k and its not even running rite? Wow, with just 423 rwhp, i absoluty kill my friends 02 c5z. Try and run him again after the tune. Is it the same guys tuning it this time that did the origanal tune? I would be skeptical

tell him to take it back and get the Z.
Z06 intake? What lol. THey have an LS6 Intake manifold. There are small difference in the 01 from other z06's as well. Cam is a bit smaller, oiling issue, no HUD. Still a better platform than the coupe...there is no arguing that. Gearing is better, heads, stock Ti exhaust, wheels are 10.5 in the back.
Where did you get those number man? Those numbers are low as hell. Coupes I can see for that, but a good shape, 60-70k mi Z06 usually goes around 18k and up.

A mild cam and long tubes with the intake/filter should net around 370-390rwhp.

The way its runnin leads me to think it has no tune at all. When he gets it back we are gonna run em again and hopefully it will be the other way around. Could the cam affect the ac not working at idol? Does having the EGR still on it affect his results also? I noticed also that the TB is fly by wire, does this mean that it has an ls3 TB?<-----------Why I would never by a modded car. Thanks for the replys.

A stock tune with a cam will usually not idle with the AC running. So yes that is symptom. It took me a while to find and fix that on my setup. It's under the torque management instead of the normal idle tables.

Z06 hands down, All around better car performance wise, looks, and holds its value better... I have no idea what the **** dude up top is talking about 15K Retail and 12K private party LMFAO, Whatever makes him feel better about not having a Z06... I have a 01 Z06 and made 367/364 with just a CAI and Straight Pipes on a hot *** day and have ran the best of a 11.96 @ 117 with DR's in 2000 DA.... A base C5 needs a lot of mods to compete with a stock C5Z
Only pro a C5 has over the Z06 is that you can remove the top and thats a pro if you even care....
Z06 has better suspension, better diff & gear, better trans, lighter, faster, better breaking and the list goes on....
Excactly hahahaha, My 01 Z06 has 25K miles and when I had it up FS before I decided I wanted to keep it I shot down numerous 23K offers over on CF.....
