Default C5 Z06 Build 438 LS7

Bought my first Corvette a 90k mile Z06 last fall. The first night of ownership I lowered it with longer bolts and pulled the front bolts out!

I drove it like this with a tune for the rest of the year. Went to the track once and made just one hit on the old dry tires and went 12.6@115

Over the winter at home I started working on it here and there. Sent the heads out to FRH to have them worked over. Installed a Custom TJ spec camshaft. Long tubes and x-pipe with no cats.

Brought it back to work in the winter to install the clutch and dyno tune. Car made 457rwhp on E85. Made it back to the track to run 11.8@125 on the old tires. Again one hit only as the track was packed and I had some other cars to tune.

This spring started the 438 build.
4.100 manley crank
Callies Compstar rods
JE dome pistons 13.7:1
Mild TJ LS7 cam
Heavily worked LS7 heads
MSD 102 ported with NW 102
Kooks 2" headers and 3" off-road X-pipe.
Engine should be ready to go onto the engine dyno in a week or two. So stay tuned for more pics and vids.

Kooks headers and x-pipe arrived on Friday. Need to get a free engine dyno cart lined up for next week! Too many marine engines in line right now.

I bet you will beat that 12.61 with this engine. How much power do you anticipate it making?

Larry, I hope to run 10.5@138-140 on street tires with this one. I am looking for 680-700hp on the engine dyno and 625rwhp or better on the chassis dyno. The cam will be holding me back about 30-40hp as it is on the small side for drive ability, 240-250 .655 .660 115.

Marv our head engine builder worked these over by hand using data from our SF-600 to dial them in. We do use FRH for most of our LS head work though.

After commenting on your thread you started awhile back I decided to have erl build me a forged 447 solid roller of course. We will have some nasty NA vettes.

Well Dave and I had our grudge match that we had set up over the winter. He has me out gunned with an A&A kit and 599rwhp, but I gave it my best. I cut some good lights .0015 .005 and he got me by .2 out the back door. My best was a 11.87@120 and he went 11.77@131. We both spun and peddled a bit but some no lift shifting kept me in the race to the 1/8th.

I think the next race will have a much different outcome with the new bullet installed!

Decided to skip engine dyno as it is tuff to find the time to get it across. So on with the swap!

New engine is in the car now. Just waiting on some LS7 fuel rails to get it fired up.

In case you were wondering if a LS7 MSD intake combo fits in a C5Z.....it does not! I built some lower engine mounts and had to cut a 3"X3" hole in the cowl.

I drove it home last night, the Ti exhaust really takes the bite out of the sound. It was great on the highway, very docile and cruises at 1300rpm in 6th at 55ish no problem.

Hit the dyno after work today. Made 590rwhp with the street tune. Worked it to 12:1 AFR and 24 degrees and made 608rwhp. I think it will go 630+ with a good CAI and slightly more aggressive tune though.

Excellent numbers. Can't wait to see what she's going to put down on a final aggressive tune.
