Default Wheel HOP

What to do to stop wheel hop at the track?

I took my Z to the track for the first time this weekend and I was in for a rude awakening thinking it would just squat and go like it does on the street lol

if I lauched too hard, I felt like the rear diff was going to fly off the car. so I launched at idle, rolled in to it, first gear went well, go into second, car starts hopping violently again, had to lift, then get back in, third, same story, pretty shitty.

I had read it would hop bad, but I thought it was just in the launch not all teh way down teh track! It kinda pissed me off...lol

the car is bone stock! stock tires, stock ride height.
maybe if I lower it it will spin instead of hop? I rather spin

cheers

Lowering generally leads to more wheel hop (this can be corrected with lca relocation brackets).

On my car, I got umi lca's as well as a umi panhard bar. This helped my wheel hop. This helps keep the rear end from twisting and such. It also makes your car turn a bit stiffer too. I watched a few videos of my launch before and after. I can definentally hear the err errrr errrr w/o them. With them, its a a smooth errrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Also before, my tire marks would be like: = = = ====== on a hard launch. Now they are ==========. If that makes sense.

He is speaking of his Z06, so LCA's aren't an option.

It's a little bit of a few things going on at once, causing this.

One...it's stock, so, your makeing power, but not overpowering the car with wheel spin, so, it's on the verge of traction(getting it) and the loss of it.

So, what you gotta do, is find the right spot to launch your car. I'm guessing your on street tires,.. try coming outta the whole(launching) @ around 3000rpm....and NOT letting the clutch go out all of the way,...i'd say ride it at 80%ish all the way out. pressing it and depressing it until your moving and not hopping.

or, you can get drag radials. More power will help you burn right through the hop.

My car will ONLY hop from a slow roll,...

Becareful with too much hop, as my friend Marco has a C6, that he launched, on stock 19's and street tires,... it started to HOP, he stayed on the throttle....and it pooped out the ENTIRE back of his diff.

When I get to work tomorrow, remind me, and i'll snap a picture of it, since I saved it as a trophey.

heating up your tires a bit seems to work.

Poly bushings in the rear upper control arms help out a lot.
