Default Corvette SS?

I saw something wierd on the highway outside Baton Rouge today. My roomate and I saw a new corvette that had little red SS letters on its fenders, (looked like monte carlo ss letters). It looked like a white Z51 car, not a z06 hard top. What do you guys think: Was this a preproduction car, (body in white) or a prototype getting tested...I heard that they were developing an SS I really hope it was what I think. It looked like it was going to a dealership in Henderson Louisiana, between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Anyone have any input?

I'v eheard rumors of an SS corvette in the works and I also heard it will be receiving a LS8 or LS9 and will outpreform the current Z06. Seems like a load, but I'd be pretty psyched if it was true. As for past SS Corvettes.... never seen one, and I'm pretty damn sure there was no C5 SS.

I read in motor trend of a possible corvette SS, they said something about 550 hp.

but this web site here wrote this...

According to the Web site, DigitalCorvettes.com, the so-called Corvette SS will be the ultimate Vette, although details at this stage are pretty slim. The rumor mill has a "charged" LS9 engine under the hood as a Corvette exclusive, not to be shared with Cadillac, Pontiac or any other GM brand. Although smaller in displacement than the massive 7.0-liter LS7, the blown LS9 allegedly will churn out more than 600 horsepower — considerably more muscle than the 500-hp Z06.

should be awesome!

I have seen an article on the proposal of a CORVETTE SS, but that was an article drafted from rumors. Would be interested to see what happens with that.
