Default 17 or 18 inch drag radials in back?

OEM tires don't hook that good on this 2002 Z06, what are folks using in back? How about those 18" BFG DR's?

a set of 17's would work good w/a 26-28" tall tire..... I run a 16" and 26"tall DR.. some shaving of upper knuckle is required though...

I'd be interested in DR's that keep the car hooked in 1st and 2nd, but I'm not looking for slick type traction.

I have the 18" BFG DRs and they hook ridiculously. I can come out of the hole at half-throttle, then mash it and have awesome traction on dry cement. I heated em up once on the street and was able to launch nearly to the floor with little wheelspin.

This is on the Vette, btw.

They take corners well, but not like an extremely stiff sidewall/low profile radial.

I like em

My best 60' on 18" BFG's - 1.58 (390rwhp A4 car)
My best so far on 17" MT's - 1.64 (380rwhp M6 car)

MT's seem to hook harder on the street, but I have to admit...I like the looks and 18" size of the BFG's.

How many miles are people getting from the MT and BFG's? And how are they in the rain? I drive my car alot and dont want to change tires every oil change.

bfgs are hook well but wear quickly and suck in the rain. john, do yourself a favor and get some 305 nittos. i have them and they make for a great all around tire.

The 18" nitto 305s will fit perfectly on the stock wheels. I have 18*335 nittos on my stock z06 wheels. Yes Im not using all the tread. They continue to be the best all around street drag radial...the BFG 305's are the shizzznit for the track though. Handling is still VERY good with either though you will feel just a hint looser in the rear....hmmm that didnt sound right. Keep in mind the 17's arent going to handle as well as the 18's....

Thanks for the info. I purchaced a set of BFG drag radials when they first came out many years ago and they only lasted about 2-3k miles plus they were like a full slick in the rain. After that I always ran Nittos better wet traction and longer thread wear.

Well with the OEM tires in back, and mine have less than 1,000 miles, the car will kick out if I take corners too hot and try to stay in it. I would think that Nitto DR's would not make that worse... No?

I did not see a link for 295 Nitto DR's anywere.

You have 2 options to go with, the 305-35-18 555R ($277 ea.) which is the drag radial. Also there's the 555RII ($314 ea.) which is going to provide you with the same traction as the drag radial but it also has a stiffer sidewall for maximum control and handling / roadracing. My last pair lasted me around 15k miles as well.

The Nitto 315 NT-O1's are the best over-all dry adhering street tire out there.
12.3" track width.

Nitto RII's are close second.

Drag Radials just plain SUCK for anything lateral.
I know someone that is taking BFG drags off his Z06.

However, A CCW Corvette Drag Package, 16"x10" rear, 15"x3" front. with ET Drag Radials are good for straight line street perfomance and for taking space in the garage when not in use, but thats about it.

P.S. NEVER mix tires.

John My Z handles great for everyday driving etc...It does not handle quite as well as the stock tires if you are going to ***** out on a roadcourse because the rear will NO LONGER kickout with the nittos but rather understeer and push the front P-zeros i have. .(Still handles 10 times better than an F-bod). I never have that problem even with VERY spirited street driving. For a roadcourse yes you need a good set of matched sticky stiff sidewall tires. For everyday driving you cant beat the nitto drags and stock tires up front(I run P-zero assemetrics), at least for my purposes. Im not interested in racing someone around corners on the street.

It sounds like you would be happier going with the R2s which have the same soft compound but stiffer sidewall.
