column lock
Ok please don't flame me for this, I have searched here & on corvetteforum but can't find an exact answer.
I've got a lock problem, the whole pull key, wait 10 seconds then service column lock issue, happened in my driveway. But I came back out 30 mins later and put the key in and it was like nothing happened - no error messages or whatnot.
SO, my question...I already have the Column Lock Bypass on the way, but I read on vetteforum that if you are already having the locking problem, you can't install the CLB. But my problem is intermittent, right now...as long as I put the key in and it didn't give me the service column message, can I just go ahead and install the CLB??

From what I understood it will not do you any good if the column is locked and you have a message in the dash. If it's unlocked and no message you should be fine. I'm installing my clb tonight.. I hope this takes care of this annoying problem.

they tend to lock when the car has been hot. my dad and i had this happen like 5 times even after the gm recall. we find that you turn the car on run the a/c and we've also banged the steering wheel w/a rubber mallet and that let it go no problem. just get the bypass, ive had mine since last year and havent had a problem w/it. good luck w/the new car too

My column locked on me when I ordered the CLB. It comes with an unlocking mechanism if your already locked up ... then you can install the module.
Agree w/Turbosixx ... no more problems after mod.

Mine locked and the dealer installed the latest fix which is to remove the locking plate and install some type of new wiring harness. They covered everything including the tow, and had it fixed within 24hrs.

You cannot install the CLB when the column is locked and won't unlock, but you CAN install it if you are getting the message but the column is still unlocked.
If your column does lock-up you can many times successfully get it unlocked (in the meantime) by trying to move the steering wheel back and forth very hard and/or putting the key in and taking it out bunch of times. Sometimes stepping away and coming back a little later and trying again will get it to unlock again.

I dreaded getting that message on my last one and it finally did it and locked up on me a few times.
Luckily this car already had the recall done.

I just got my CLB bypass kit and having it installed when the car goes in for the cam-swap. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get pinched in the meantime.
