Default C6 Corvette

Iknow this might belong in the ls2 secyion but I;m just curious from my fellow LS1 owners, has anyone ever driven a LS2 corvette? I drove an 05 6-speed today and damn those things are beasts compared to an LS1 fbody and the top end is incredible might even give my car compitition up top on highway with my mods, most impressive too bad they wouldnt let me drive there 1 Z-06! Anyone else ever played with one?

I've driven many. They're nice, but too expensive for me.

Also their removable painted roofs are all going to ****. There's a recall on them. It gets fixed for free, but not something that should happen on a $50k vehicle.

Vettes have great power up top. Mine is relatively close to stock. Its an A4 with 2.73 gears. My buddy has a 6spd 2000 TransAm with similar mods, and he's a much better driver than me. From a 70mph roll he puts a car on me really fast, but I catch him at about 110-115mph and put a few lengths on him by the time I shut it down at 150mph.

If I were buying a new Corvette right now I'd make damn sure that it came with the transparent roof so that I didn't have to worry about the top coming apart! My C5 has the transparent roof and I love it, even when I don't take it off I have that open feeling.

I walked the C6's I came up against. I got beat by Fadi's C6 Z. It will be closer in the rematch, I will do everything I can to erase that weight advantage he had when we raced. Before I raced Fadi I ran another C6 Z and beat him by a car, maybe more, maybe less when he shut down at 170. I was willing to keep going but he wasn't. I think the only reason I was able to beat the first C6 Z was most likely due to me running on fumes. I probably had a gallon in the tank when we punched it at 75 mph. When I pulled into the gas station my RANGE until empty read 1 !! LOL. I got very lucky, on the win, and not running out of gas.

I have driven my buddy's C6 vert. It handled much better than my fbody but I was not like "oh my god it's so much faster". The gearing is a little different but the clutch felt the same as mine. He kept saying "You'll stall it starting in first" and I was like "Ah, I doubt it". No issue with starting in first. He was starting in second most times. I didn't like the long throws of the stock shifter but I'm used to the Pro5.0 with LSS. Overall, yes it felt faster then my Z but not crazy faster IMO.

C6 coup with the Z51 performance package and a 6 speed manual is a mid to upper 12 second car when stock..(runs 186 mph top end)not a bad place to start..thay can be made made very fast...a better handling and driving package than the F body cars not to mention the less weight..(-250 lbs)..I like them a lot..

C6's when stock will run 12.90 @ 109 when they are at operating temps or hotter. If they are allowed to cool down all the way, they run 12.40s @ 114 mph.

GM really hurt these cars on the tuning end when they are warmed up. Anything with coolant temps over 200F, and it pulls 16 deg of timing out and makes them slower. With the stock fan settings and t-stat, they ALWAYS run over 200F, even in the winter. Stupid stuff there. So, if you catch a stock one on the freeway, its a high 12 second car.

Luckily, the fan settings and t-stat are easy to change out. Then the car runs at 185F all day long, even when beating on it.

I don't think that you were playing with him...he was playing with you and not very seriously either..I gotta call on this one..I have driven at least 50 of the 2006 Z06's and they are a lot quicker than a car with your mods and carrying your weight..the new Z will run mid 11's at 125+ I don't see your car doing that and from a roll they are stupid fast..

i drove a c6 z51 and wasn't impressed with it...It was my buddies C6 that had the Z51 pkg and it was a 6 spd. I took it down the track and went 13.1 @ 109. My car. C5 Z51 6spd, at the time i only had a vararam and catback, and i was going 13.2 @ 111 and both his and my cars were at around 198-200F....I didn't notice a difference in power, but what i could tell was that at lower rpms, the c6 was more responsive and up top, my car pulled a tad harder. in the upper rpms, the C6 feels like it's being choked. Overall, I was disssappointed with the power and couldn't tell there was a 50hp difference. On a different occasion, i ran another c6 on the highway. another Z51 6spd, and with my only 2 mods being vararam and catback, his front bumper was at my front wheel from 60-100.... Overall, another dissappointent.

The C6 Z51 handles a tad better than our previous Z51 models.

Now the c6 Z06, i drove my buddies and WOW!!!
all i can say is I WANT ONE

Anyone with a 2005 C6, I have a set of brand new Cartek modules (one for fan control, one for torque management control) that I never used. They cost $500 brand new, will sell them for $150 shipped. They come with instructions, I went with custom tuning instead. Along with a t-stat, these should be good for half a second off of your ET at operating temps.

Actually my car does make mid to high 11 second passes but keep in mind we were both on the street on street tires I think he spun a lil more though.

I am in the Corvette business..dealership where I work sells 50 new Corvettes a month. The C6 is a great car..it does everything well...an like all LSx motors is does not take a lot of effort to make more HP with them...there realy is no other car in the world that can offer 400 HP, 400 FT. lbs. of torque, run mid 12's off the show room floor, run 186 MPH top end, pull .97 G on a skide pad, and has great manners in any type of driving conditions, and on top of all this...still get around 30 miles per gallon on the highway!! It has been and still is the most hot rod you can buy for the money on the planet...the new Z06 is in another class all by itself..it produces performance numbers that duplicates what cars that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars more do...comparitively speaking it is a world class super car at a Wal-Mart price..

I beat the hell out of my friend's 06 C6 6-speed from a 70 roll. Looked like he wasn't even trying. Once you look at my sig, you'll understand why.

I would hope so you had about 165 RWHP more than he did..
