Default removing an engine from a 97 corvette.

Yes I am pretty sure i have blown the engine. now I need to get it out but I really don't want to take to whole front end apart. Is there any other way of getting the engine out?

Either lift the body off or drop the the rear and tranny and pull the motor out of the top of the engine compartment. There is no easy way.

I have taken my whole z06 apart now, had the complete drivetrain out from the bottom. It would have been less work just to lift the body off. When I started taken the car apart I didnt know I was going to get that carried away or I would pulled the body off from the start.

If you don't have a lift pulling the motor from the top is not bad. I've done many on jack stands. Contrary to what has already been posted you do not need to remove the rear or tranny to pull the engine from the top.

Remove exhaust
Remove tunnel plate with the ~36 screws
Use tranny jack to support the trans or floor jack on the torque tube itself
Remove front rack
Remove bolts holding torque tube to bell housing
Pull engine forward off splined shaft and up and out

Of course disconnect all the electrical topside before you lift the motor out.

Best of luck
