Default is a TSP231/237 112 too much cam for a C5

I'm going to get a C5 6sp and was wondering if this too much cam for a C5 DD. How bad does this cam effect the gas mileage? I have liked every sound clip I have heard of this cam. I was Also thinking of a FM13 on a 110 LSA.

With the F14 on a 112 in my car I was still getting the same gas mileage as stock.

I run a 230-236 112 +2 XE-R in mine with a 90/90 setup. I run a Speed Density tune and I can drive it in DC rush hour without any problems at all.

It's in the tuning.

Werd. It's all in the tuning for sure.

I'm running about 650 lift......and my car has NEAR stock driveability. My gas mileage in all my cars has always sucked so, I gave up on the whole fuel consumption thing when I had my first 5.0

buying a cam because of the sound is just stupid. You can make a tiny 220/220 cam lope like a **** if you set the idle low enough. Hell, you can make a stock cam lope with a low enough idle rpm. The "sound" is also a function of the exhaust system used. You can almost hide a cam with a quiet exhaust and a little more rpm at idle.

I don't like cams bigger than 230/230 for daily drivers. The 'gains' in peak HP aren't worth the drivability hassles in my opinion.

I can say there are not many drivability issues with the F14. The cam is a 232 234 and Allan tuned the car so it runs very well on the street with the AC on. The cam has good torque numbers as well as HP. With bolt-ons and the cam I made 423 rwhp and 408 rwtq. I added some heads and now make 451rwhp 423 rwtq. The car actually drives better with the Dart heads over the LS6s and gets better gas mileage as well. I think the Spec 3 clutch had worse driveablility than the cam

by saying i like the way it sounds doesn't always mean i'm talking about the idle.

that cam also revs quick and i like the power band. I also like the fact that it's power band starts at 1700 rpm. please don't be so quick to call me stupid, MR. ADMINISTRATOR, lol.

I've made over 300 dyno runs in various LS1 vehicles since '98, and over 1,000 passes down the track in various LS1 vehicles. If you can hear the difference between cams at WOT, you must have super hearing. I have to call BS on that. I didn't call YOU stupid, I said buying a cam based on sound is stupid. Any engine builder will agree.

SigForty, I had the same cam in my silver Formula. It was "drivable", but not nearly as drivable as the 224/224, 228/228, 232/232, 221/221, 230/227 etc... type cams I've had. The car still had that low mph bucking and dead zones in the lower rpm band. I guess I prefer my cars to not have any issues at all, because its usually only a difference of 10 hp between drivable and quirky.

Here's a link to a video of a C5 with Kooks headers running a 231/237. At one time I had this cam sitting, waiting for an install but sold it to a friend that just scored his second DUI in his TA. Looking back I would have bought the Torquer cam from TSP instead. It's curve is a little better than the the 231/237. Look at the Torquer as the new version (v3.) just came out a little while ago.

See my sig for cam specs, I really liked the cam.
It needed to be tuned, and the degree advance grind was +4, which lowered the powerband.
