Default headlight grinding

hi all
i replaced the headlight gear on my c5 last week and it worked fine for a couple of days, now when i turn them off it grinds, is there an adjustment that tells the motor to stop when the light is fully closed?
thanks in advance.

no adjustment. I believe the motors basically increase in resistance when they hit open or closed position, and the BCM turns the motor off. If the gears are stripped, they continue to turn since they won't build resistance. Similar to how window motors work.

Did you replace it with a nylon gear or a brass one? The grind means that there are teeth missing from the gear. When I replaced mine I used brass replacement and have not had a problem since.

Mine do the same things. I have the brass gears, just need to get around to installing them.

With going with the brass will that make another part wear out faster then? I know brass is softer then say if you had a metal piece but I was just curious if up grading from the plastic to the brass would cause another part to fail. Also where would you guys recommend getting the brass pieces from? Thanx.

A quick fix for stripped plastic gears is quick, simple, and free. Raise the headlights and remove the black plastic covers surrounding the headlights. Locate where the control arm from the light connects to the side of the motor. Remove the nut and washer ( 10 mm I believe ) , and carefully work the arm off of the motor shaft. Use the manual **** to rotate the motor 180 degrees, reassemble the control arm to the shaft, and reinstall the nut and washer. The motor is now driving the opposite side of the stripped gear. Have done this repair to both sides of my 2002, one last month, and the other 6 months ago. Do have the brass gears sitting in my shop, but that is a much more involved repair, will do it next time.
