Default Time for a clutch

My clutch is finally slipping. Peddle is light as anything. Whats the best clutch out there for the money? I do drag race my Z06 about 3-4 times a month and a few street races. Can you guys give me some ideas and comments please.

If you are above 450 rwhp I would suggest the Exedy twin plate and never worry about a clutch again. My numbers are in my sig and the Exedy twin has been flawless so far. A bit pricey but worth it.

I would say the best clutch for the money would be the Spec stage 3+. You HAVE to break it in correctly and it is somewhat hard to break it, but once it is done... the clutch feels like a stock clutch and with take a beating. $550 for the clutch.

The Exedy is nice if you wanna pay $2500+ JUST for the clutch assy and like the above said... you wont have to really worry about it again... although you will have to worry about half shafts. Twin Disc clutches have a tendency of being very harsh on the rearends of any vehicle.

I wouldn't take a spec clutch if you paid me. Ask V-Series Tech about his experiences with SPEC clutches. Anyways if you are making 450 rwhp or more you should definately upgrade to a twin plate and forget it. Also at that power level a built rearend makes sense. Something like DTE's stg III. Good rearend, micropolished gears, cryo treated, hardened output shafts, the works. With that rear in place you won't have to worry about the Exedy twin hurting your rear.

I can't say which is "best"...but I had the Textralia OZ700 installed and with 800-900 miles on it so far it's been great. No chatter and the pedal effort is very close to stock.

When mine goes out I'm putting a stock Zo6 unit back on.

I had a twin turbo/cammed Firehawk with the stock clutch and it has about 51k miles on it..

Even powershifting the car hasn't made the clutch slip once.... and that's with 550+rwhp!

Spec clutches are great if you break them in properly and will last for ever. If you are an assclown and go out burning it up before it has time to set... then yes!... it will have a short lived life and NO... I would not reimburse you for damages done to a clutch with little to no milage on it. I dont go off of one persons experience on a clutch because that one person may not know how to properly break in a clutch.

I am running a C6Z06 clutch kit. It is about $450 for clutch and flywheel. It has a factory feel to it, and should be good for 505hp.

The textralia OZ700 is the only choice for me. Exactly like stock and holds gobs of power.

Most clutches are good and they all feel a little different. What you should really do is find some local cars with different clutches and see if you can drive them a little. I know lots of guys love the TEX but to be honest I did not like the engagement it was to grabby for me and the pedal was a little stiff but thats a big deal to me. My problem with it was the harsh engagement I was glad I drove a car with one before I bought one. Lots of people also love the Ram HD set up, I have no experience with it however. The Spec line seems to have a lot of haters here on the net but most shops stand by them. I can tell you I have a Spec 3+ and love it. I understand that some people have had issues with them, but you cant name a company that has had no complaints. So see if you can drive some cars and feel them for yourself that will give you a true feel for what you want. Good luck in your search.

Right, well, the car was totalled, and the person could have been killed. I wouldn't give a fat rats a$$ how much of an assclown a person was, you shouldn't have a product on the market that can do that. We're all entitled to our own opinion; you have yours, I have mine. After hearing what happened to another board member here by the Spec clutch; I wouldn't install it in my $30K+ vehicle even if it were given to me.

Good luck with yours btw.

I just put a spec stage III in my cobra that has a t-56. I am in the process of breaking it in, but it has been driving real nice.

I am not sure what I am going to do for the z06, but I can imagine that if you were looking to save money, the spec stage 3 would not be a bad choice. I am currently thinking about the one doug mentioned or the textralia. I am not sure yet as I have to put the cobra back in the shop to get the driveshaft fitted properly and need to drive a car around in the mean time. As soon as I get it back I will put the z06 in to get the clutch done.

Fun times!

How is the twin EXO-Skel compared to a OZ700B as far as pedal feel and grab?
