The mileage is fine as long as the car has been properly maintained. You're probably not gonna get much feedback on this post because of the infinite answers to your question. Nobody can tell you what the best cam is.....that is a matter of your own opinion and needs. I would recommend calling a good shop like Thunder Racing and talking to them about what you do with your car and what you're trying to get out of it. They can steer you in the right direction. But first off, find some key points that are important to you such as idle quality, cost (bigger cams may require better valvetrain which increases the cost), power curve, what kind of driving you do, etc. That'll help you start narrowing your selections down.

i personally have a 239/242 but have heard good things about g5x3, cams mine is from tsp the ms4 and has an extreme lope to it compared to my stock cam...if that is what u are looking for thats great...i however still have morons asking me if its "only a catback" i mean jesus c'mon. i guess my only advice is, and from what alot of people say go with a bigger cam cause if u go with a small one u will want to upgrade later. i would wait till i got the c6 then put a nice head/cam package on that. cause u never really get the money back that u put into mods

No it won't hurt the motor. If you do a big cam you have to do other things with it such as valve springs, hardened pushrods, timing chain, etc. Basically you need to upgrade the valvetrain. And it is worth it!!! Nothing will help your car "feel" faster than valvetrain. Better response, quicker acceleration, tighter deceleration etc. Definitely worth it. Doing a cam swap isn't easy, but it is a GREAT reason to upgrade other components because of how deep into the car you have to go. Get a reputable shop to do it for you....its not something that you want to slap together. It'll cost you more in the long run.

Hi there,
I have a 2004 C5 'vert C.E.
I have just 10k miles on the clock.

I am not greedy for power (yet) would I need to replace valve springs if I just swapped out the stock cam for the 224/224?

Guestimate only, what would the replacement cam get me up to power wise?

Would I have to do headers? or is that just a logical option.
Thanks

I think I am going with a 224/224 114 or a 224/228 114 end of this month.

I have a 99 LS1
American Racing LT w Cats
Ported Throttle body
Delphi 42# injectors
LS6 intake

Adding a powerbond 25% UD Pulley

Heads are LS1 castings ported by Patriot
REV 2.02 intake 1.6 exhaust
REV Springs .650
Pressures 140# @ 1.780 AND 340# @ .510 LIFT.
Flow # should be 300-306 (only thing they have not done yet is flow em )
BTW these are FFHP Heads that were new in the box when Katrina flooded the sellers garage...I got em $400 that checked out good by the machine shop Seats need to touched up a bit but everything else is a go

Looking for drivable 400 RWHP for the wife when I am gone; and some serious Nitrous fun when I am home.

Drivability is the question. Do you want lope or a more refined idle? Are you looking for high end power or mid range power. I would call the cam help line from the manufacturer and answer these questions. You are also going to need tuning just to have it run right. My initial cam install cost me $1000.00 for the cam, pushrods and valvesprings installing it myself. Tuning will run $500.00 just to get you going, but should be alot less for other dyno pulls later on if you are still modding.

yea thats what i was thinking about i think im going to do kooks LT's and X pipe and use a MS3 cam from TS 237/242, .603"/.609" and get the spring kit and pushrod package... my oil pressure and idle is only 35 psi and like i said earleir i have high mileage.... so how do you think this cam will so i would like to have 400 or 420 rwhp.. and do i need any other moods?

I run that cam and it makes most of its power up top. You can get a smaller cam that will give you more tq and give it to you earlier. Overal I love the cam cause it makes nice power but it sounds awsome.

I didnt do the install a buddy of mine did so I cant say how hard/easy it was. My first tune with it I made 413hp and 394tq. Went back for a touch up tune and made 430hp and 398tq I believe, I will have to find the dyno sheet to verify the tq. Both of the tunes were done on a Mustang dyno and it didnt say whether it was SAE corrected or not but they are a big shop and told me it was so I took their word for it. I was not happy with the drivability with either tune at that shop so I am trying to do it myself with a buddy of mine. Eventually I will get on a good dyno jet and have some numbers to back up my last set of numbers.
