Default 1st time to the track dont laugh too hard!

I've been to the track before but only in my A4 camaro so this was the first for me in the M6. The car was in full street trim, chrome Z06s and supercar tires. I was expecting first gear to be a problem but no matter how I put it in second it would start to spin and wheel hop mid gear. This was friday at US 41 in ind.

60 ft= 1.95
1/8 et= 8.12
1/8 mph= 92.05
1/4 et= 12.32
1/4 mph= 118.54

I had the tires down to 18 psi and on my last pass I realized that a longer burnout was helping which has been the opposite of my exp with street tires. The track prep wasn't the greatest either. My first half isn't the greatest but I love how this thing rolls on the big end. Maybe if I learn to drive it I'll put a 100 shot on it......150????

Thanks guys, beside making it stronger (DTE brace, out put shaft, etc) is there anything I can do to the suspention to fight wheel hop? Will it be more suseptable to wheel hop after drag radials? I know its got some 11s in it I just want to get it to do it

Nice pass, KFK. Couple comments....

The path to avoiding wheel hop on stock tires is to modulate the throttle. Properly heated DR normally won't hop. Powershifting is normally not the fastest path either. If the tires are spinning, you are losing time.

FYI the stock F1SC tires begin to cup at 23 psi hot. So anything lower than that will reduce the contact patch and hurt traction all the way down the track. I got my best times 11.8s on high 1.7X at 27-28 psi post-burnout.

Ranger- thanks for the advise, I will work on those points next time to the track. I understand the spinning=not going I also will probably leave the powershifting till I get closer to my goal. Once again thanks everybody!

Just a little update for you guys. I went to Byron Dragway today for a little t&t. The first two passes were 12.04 and 12.05. Then the third:

60' 1.95
330 5.21
1/8 7.82
MPH 94.92
1000' 10.00
1/4 11.95
MPH 118.92

I have been working on the advise given to me but the car is still faster than the driver allows. I did have nittos (275) on this time and the track was better prep but I spun the clutch once and bogged the rest. Also the tires were aired to 25 and was getting wheel hop on launch and 1-2. For my burn out : water- 2nd gear 6000 rpm for solid 3 sec- role to the line. Any advise? P.S. This is with a LS7 clutch and I may be learning what some people complain about.

I really need to practice. My first visit was 12.3 @ 121.6 mph. No traction through 1st and only the second 1/2 of 2nd gear. Needed to drop the pressure in my tires, but never did. The Mickey Thompsons should improve my traction, if they ever come in. Awesome run !!! You beat me and have a lot less power. Your 60's were 4 tenths better too. Boy do I need some practice, and traction. No time though. Congrats on the 11's.

yea it's def got more in it...that's almost exactly the times i ran in my stock Z w/ 65 less rwhp

i would think it's got an 11.6-11.7 in her around 120ish with some good driving and sticky tires

keep up the good work

See if you can get a hold of some ET streets, you won't regret it, you would drop close to a half second and your 60 foot times could be in or near the 1.5 range.

My first time at the track was this past Friday at Texas Motorplex down in Ennis. Temp was 95 Deg with about 100% humidity. My back tires are seriously worn, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to go down and run.
I got out of the hole ok, but once the spray hit in first, it spun the rest of the way through first and into second. I also missed fourth gear, thus the MPH being down.
I only got to run twice. The second time, I forgot to purge because I was anxious about running this mustang next to me. I spun hard out of the hole, then the spray didn't hit until about 4500 RPMs and it just didn't feel right the rest of the way down the track. Time wise, it was about the same as the first. Definitely need more practice and a cooler night to run. I saw a lot of mid 13's because of the heat that night, so I don't feel too bad.

R/T - 1.085
60' - 2.286
1/8 - 8.71
MPH - 90.31
1/4 - 13.170
MPH - 109.09

A stock C5 Z06 is high 11s and a stock C5 is mid/high 12s. Thats with Ranger driving anyway. About a full second slower if you put me behind the wheel.lol
