Default Get Paid or Get C5 Z06??

I have second job working part time for a Corvette wholesaler/parts dealer doing general PC work around the shop and some basic web site design. I put in about 4-8 hours per week and I get about 1000 per month pre tax. Recently I was talking to my boss and we started talking about how I'd like to find a nice light flood Z06. He said he would be willing to find me one, fix it and use it as my pay for the next x number of months. I told him I'd want a low miles 405 HP C5 Z06. I'm guessing he would be getting one around 15k and may need to put 5k into it to fix it up. Would you continue to just get paid monthly or make the deal?

One thing I should mention is that he has supplied my last 2 fbodys both were flood cars that were perfect before I got them. My current 2002 has 26k miles and was a fresh water flood.

My problem is I want a Z06 but am not much on saving and this could get me a nice car without payments. I figure based on our previous deals this could take him 6 months to find as I have very specific needs but I wanted to get a consenus on what you would do if you were me?

Thanks for your help!!!

if you are comfortable with a flood car and you are willing to work it off, then go for it! Especially if you have trouble saving!

I'm not getting rid of the Camaro....I put 3 years of work into her. I put about 1000 miles a year on her and I'd never get back what I put into it as it is a branded title. I have lots of garage space so I can have both

Default Go for it

Get the ZO6 as long as you are not strapped for cash by losing the second income. Once you have the ZO6 you my find you don't hardly drive the Z28 anymore and will sell it, instant cash.

Life is a short ride.... don't look back when you're on your death bed thinking of all the things you should've done.

Hell I dumped a twin turbo Firehawk for a Zo6 and I'd do it again even faster the second time around!

Most flood damages vettes that I have heard about have electrical gremlins that never go away. You can find a nice good ZO6 and get a loan for less than half of your monthly second income.

I'm all for you getting a Z but taking the car and working to pay it off is just asking for a major issue to possibly pop up.... you could have a disagreement with the person or something else could happen and want to quit and they could hold the car over your head. Not saying it would happen but legally he would own the car since you wouldnt have the title and could scam you..... you need to make sure you are covered in all aspects these days.

Much better plan. Less risk when it comes to problems with the car, keep some income coming in from the 2nd job.

I have known the guy for 20 years and while it is possible for me to want to quit someday we just need to agree on the price up front and if I leave I need to pay off whatever is left. I know what these cars sell for at Auction and an 04 with 15k miles that is fresh water flood will probably sell for around 13-15k. Another 2-3k to fix is a lot better than 35k+ for a good titled Z06.

I know what people say about flood cars but I've had 2 and I don't see why the vette would be any different than the Z's I've purchased. At least the vette is not steel and will not rust up like the Z's can. I still have not made up my mind and thanks for all the input. I will consider it all carefully before making a final decision.

I'd have to agree with Keith; life is much easier without gremlins Good luck with the purchase either way you go!

Just be sure to get anything agreed on in writing and have it notorized... that way both ends are covered.

Vettes tend to have more electrical goodies than an F-body, so there maybe more chances for issues. If this guy is good at it, it maybe worth rolling the dice.
