Yess. I want to go to an LS6. hell, Jegs has them for (i think) $7000.00 for the whole crate engine.
I dont even have to do the swap... the local Corvette Performance shop will do that for me.
OR, like you said, I could go for a 402 or 408.
What would i need to buy additional of the engine? Im positive the LS6 and LS1 can use the same PS pump, A/C, alternator, starter, clutch, transmission...
nope, you shouldn't need diff accessories. the stock stuff will bolt right up. i have a C5R 427ci in my car, all the stock stuff is still there. bolts right up to my trans as well.

as for buying a crate motor, i would suggest against that. i have had a few friends do this, and their motors came to them in poor condition. eventually had major problems. i would suggest having your local Vette shop build you a solid motor. this way you can pick and custom build the motor to your needs, right there in person (per say).

Or hell, i think you could do a LS7 swap, the bracketry and wiring harnesses already exist, just gotta look for em'!

Or grow a set of ***** and build your own motor. Turning a wrench isn't a talent. It's something anybody can do.

I agree and disagree with this statement.

Building a motor, is an artwork. If anybody could do it, everyone would be.

Turning a wrench,...my friend, is a talent.

I Also forgot that shipping an engine up here, also means adding an extra $2000.00 to the cost.

A local shop will do it for me, and install the engine.
I think they said, it would take a weekend, and $10,000.00 additional of building a custom LS6.
so, i duno. Probably $20,000.00 in the end.

I just gotta sell the Supercharger. Who wants one?

uhm...20K to build a motor. thats insane!!! there are forum vendors selling crate motors, ready to drop in for 1/4 of that price!!! just do some research and you'll see... i could see building a 427 to holy hell would run about 20K but not a normal, forged LS6. do the homework man, im sure you can find something very well priced.

And who is the shop you use up in your neck of the woods?

That's just because people are stupid or scared. Or lack the location/tools. Other than that, it's just reading torque specs and turning the wrist.

naw, the motor would cost at least $10,000.00 to build. and another $10,000 for the shop to stick it in, tune it, dyno...
the LS6 that i get though is all after-market. stroked and bored...
stock LS6, i think is, 405hp
this one is btwn 450-480hp/

That sounds like an awful lot! I spent ~$10k for my shortblock, heads, and all of the other parts for my 427. I paid a local shop ~$1900 to put it all together and install it.

I suppose i could get a deal of some sort. I am a frequent customer...
I might actually do the swap in stages. Cause, my A/C is broken, and I want to get that fixed, but the only way to get at it is to remove the supercharger. And while the Supercharger is out, I would get the guys to install all my factory accessories on... and I would sell the supercharger.
that way, I could get a bit more money to spend on the engine.

the shop also has a few goodies for all those NA LS1 as well. a load of performance kits to increase HP from 350hp up to 490.
ANd those kits are cheep... really cheep.

By the time I sold my supercharger, my stock engine, and all of the other bits that I wasn't using the 427 conversion only cost me something like $4k out of pocket.

I may or may not have already asked this, but what really is the main difference between an LS1 and LS6?
Both are 346ci(5.7L)
I was looking on GM performance. the only difference i saw, was the max RPM of the engines.

Would it be possible to just put LS6 heads/cam on the LS1 block?
and then re-tune the computer?

or would i be better off with buying a whole LS6?

Why are you strung out on the LS6? The only people that think it is superior are those who paid extra for it as a Z06. Everyone else just buys much better aftermarket parts.
And yes, the only differences are the intake, cam (barely bigger), and heads (better but inferior to ported and milled stock castings).

I was looking at three different places to pick up a set of heads and a cam.

Linginfelter:
-Lingenfelter CNC Ported GM Aluminum LS1 Cylinder Heads Corvette Camaro Firebrid 1999 - 2004
With GT2-3 cam or GT11 cam or COMP CAMS XTREME XE-R XER281HR-232/234-.595/.698 W 1.7 ROCKER - 112 LSA.

-GM Performance Parts LS6 CNC Ported Cylinder Heads - 65 cc with GT2-3 cam or ( I want something really choppy and ugly) COMP CAMS XTREME XE-R XER281HR - 232/234 - .595/.598 W 1.7 ROCKER - 112 LSA.

West Coast Corvettes:
-C5 head and cam package (specs unknown, HP increase was apparently 55-75hp)
-ZO6 LS-6 heads 63cc 10.5:1 compression (With same cam options as above)
-C5/ZO6/C6 AFR 205cc LS1 mongoose street head- they say "Ideal for N/A ---Applications" (with same cam options as above)

Vengeance Racing:
-Trick Flow GEN III LSX cylinder heads (215, 225, 235, 245 cc options) stock compression.
-LS1 225cc Mongoose strip aluminum heads 225cc stock compression.
-Vengeance Racing Vindicator Camshaft for both options.

yes, its lots of info to choke down for one post.
there are so many options.
Lingenfelter is very nice, but expensive.
WCC is cheep but limited
Vengeance is plentiful, but also expensive.

Personally I like the mongoose strip head with the vengeance cam, or the COMP CAM ^

tell me what you think would be best to go with.
