Thumbs up Having a hard time shifting your C5? Tick Performance has the cure!

For those of you that aggressively drive your C5, you may notice that it becomes extremely hard to shift in the higher RPMs.

No More!

Tick Performance's new Adjustable Master Cylinder has solved literally every problem that we've been plagued by for years with these cars and their terrible hydraulic setup. See the link below for more information:

Will this cure my problem:

When I am trying to perform a quick shift near redline, 2-3 or 3-4 shift, my shifter simply "hits a wall". There is no grinding from the gears, I simply cant push the shifter into gear no matter how hard I am pushing (or pulling). If the car had a gated shifter, it feels like I am hitting the gate. The only way to get the car in gear is to wait for the RPM's to come down to aroudn 4000 then it goes into gear just fine. Normal driving, the car shifts as smooth as can be.

My car specs:

2002 Z06
Hurst shifter (adjusted it a million times trying to solve my problem)
RPM Level 5 tranny with bronze shift pads.
Centerforce DF 12" clutch
Centerforce steel flywheel
Stock C5 master (40k miles)
Stock Z06 slave (replaced 8k miles ago - clutch is only 3k old)
Fresh fluid = no help

I will admit I am not the greatest "speed shifter" in the world, but I never had this kind of problem with my '03 Cobra (stock shifter, CF DF clutch in that car as well).

Please advise if you think I am experiencing a hydraulic issue or some other issue. Thanks in advance

Steve

No weights on the disc itself, but there are weights on a locator ring on the pressure plate fingers.

Steve - oftentimes, I've heard that those weights cause problems shifting in the upper RPMs. Do a search here on tech for Centerforce Weights. Lots of guys have had problems in the past. I've actually never sold a Centerforce clutch for these cars because of this issue.

Our master helps many different high RPM shifting problems, but I think your problem may be caused by your clutch, as well.

There is no group buy going on, but you can buy them both quickly, safely and easily at our online store:

My Z has a new trextralia(sp?) behind my 383 and still no improvement. I have to shift alittle slower during a drag race type senario....my 03 cobra never had this type of issues.

Sounds like you need the Tick Performance Adjustable Master - it has fixed a LOT of cars with Tex clutches that didn't like to shift in the upper RPMs. The problem is that the stock hydraulics are VERY poorly designed.

Your 03 Cobra doesn't have that problem because it uses a cable clutch setup - no poor hydraulics to hinder it's shifting.

My biggest problem is from 2-3 gear shift. It wont go in after 6200 RPM's and I have the Mcleoud adjustable master! What is going on with mine? All other gears are fine except that one.

fastvet, which clutch are you running? Has the system been bled well?

Z06MADMAN, the cylinder is $289.99 for the Corvettes.

I can vouch for the Tick Master.

I have a Tex clutch in my 01 Z06 and could not shift at high RPM's.

I installed the Tick and now I can bang gears all day long.

So on the adjustable master cylinder, do you set it at the highest setting or which one?

You set it at the lowest point to start, then you slowly increase the length until you are satisfied with your shift performance.

I had my ZO6 transmission rebuilt by the "other guys". The trans felt great and performed well, but it seemed to have the grinding issue on a one-two speed shift every time I drove it aggressively. The main shaft was bent after suffering from a rear diff failure, so I had sent the T56 to Tick performance (xXx Motorsports in Pensacola highly recommended them). Within 4 days, I had the transmission back and rowing gears with no grinding issues! Not only did they replace my main shaft and returned it to me within a week, they had put the gear box back together better than the pros at the “other place". Smooth shifts every time! Give Tick a try. They are the new guys on the block with awesome results. They know there stuff.
