Default Got picked on last night

I just got done putting the loudmouth exhaust on the car and was excited, the car sounds badass and i bought it for $175 locally. On my way home i passed a cobra as he was coming out of a gas station. I got in the right lane cruising at about 60, and he drives past me and jumps in front to show me his plate "ITLBURNU" then gets back over and drops a gear and gets next to me. So i drop to third and we try to setup a race but neither of us can hear. I let him get the jump and man was that a mistake. He from 55 to 100 he pulled about 3 cars if not more like i was driving a damn pinto. Then a guy in a lighting pulls up and starts pacing me. The guy in the passenger seat doesnt say anything just stares at me with the window up. I throw it in 3rd and jump a little, finally he rolls down the window and says 3 honks. We went from 55 to about 85 or 90 and he had 2 cars on me.

I figured its one of 3 things: (or all)
1. They were heavily modded
2. Something is wrong with my car
3. I cant drive

When i raced i had it in 3rd and just floored it, is that right or is there some kind of technique to doing it? This is my first manual car so bear with me. Is it also a possibility that my clutch needs to be replaced?
Sorry for the novel lol

True. Its gonna be hard with a stock Z06 to stay with a modded cobra/lightning.

i'd get headers first too with 3" piping to your new loudmouth. there's a good start. you could port the throttle body too. a guy does them on here for 55-60 bucks. thats a good mod to have.

in the meantime work on the shifting if you think it's slow.

Option 5. sell the z06 and buy a cobra!

That's the one thing I love about cobras you dont know if your about to run a stock one or a 600hp twin screw.

What do Mustangs and tampons have in common?

Every ***** has one.

LoL J/k. I dont think anyone would take an 03-04 cobra over an 02 zo6. The cobras are nice, but they dont look half as nice as a vette.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, doesn't mean they're right

Why did you start in 3rd gear ? 55 mph is about the end of first gear if I remember right. You were completely out of your power band. You might have still gotten spanked but not very bad.

I have to agree with this poster.

You should have been in 2nd gear. You might still have lost, but it should have been a better race.

I thought about selling my Z for a 03-04 Cobra. First one I looked at reminded me why I never owned a Mustang. Don't get me wrong that forged bottom end, KB oppertunity, and the fact they are a fraction less to mod over a Z I just find them cheaply made. Not that the Corvette is some italian stud, BUT compared to the Mustang there really is no comparison. Now would I like to have one as a toy HELL YEAH, but to replace a Z with one would be a step back. I would take a 02 SS/WS6 throw the extra $10K you save at the LS6 and be a happy camper.

That's because:
1) I start in second like everyone say's to (maybe that is my problem)

2) My Z has a Ten second cut off switch !!

3) I set my shift light at 4400 rpm

4) My ET Streets are 4 yrs old now (trying to save weight) and I get no traction in first gear

All right..I admit it " I just can't drive"

I would have definitely tried in second as mentioned before. I have 3.90's in my car and from a 60-70 punch is where I would use 3rd. You want to be taching around 4500.

You make fun of the build quality of a mustang then say you would take an fbody? I guess I'm missing something.

To the OP 2nd gear at 55mph is your best bet.
