Default Won Imports vs. Domestic Street Fighter, 8.589 @ 157 N20, radials

Last night we won the Street Fighter at MIR's annual Imports vs. Domestic shootout. Our car fit well into the rules, and runs pretty much what they wanted the street fighter cars to run. All of our passes were made at a 3430 raceweight, and we got to run our two stages of n20.

Three weeks ago we had a fuel pump mishap at the track and we burned up all of our top rings. I literally just finished up the motor on Sunday night, and it took about a week to get it back in the car with my work schedule etc.

We showed up on Saturday and made some test passes and got teched in (which was a good idea since there were several hundred cars there). We clicked off an 8.72 which seemed to put us in the hunt, but on Sunday some fast cars showed up. Avon's Turbo Buick, Justin Burcham's 2005 Mustang (F1 blower + n20), and others all showed up to run.

We ended up qualifying third with an 8.848 @ 154 after blowing the tires off in the first qualifying session. A few of the cars didn't make the call for round one, so we got a bye but ran it out to an 8.71 @ 156.52. The car had been running out of gear all weekend at the 1000 foot mark, but there was nothing we could do about it.

Second round we raced an import with a Supra motor that had gone 8.76 in the previous round. We ended up running a new best of 8.65 @ 156.28 with a 1.29 60' and an eigth mile of 5.53 @ 126.03. Like I said, we were running out of gear bad!

Our next round competitor was supposed to be another Supra, but he was disqualified and we took our by but didn't run it out.

At this point we were in the Finals, and had to run Justin Burcham from JPC and his 2005 Mustang GT. He had just clicked off an 8.48 a round before.

We figured we better go all in if we wanted a shot. 200 pills went in the plate for a total of 550 all in after 0.3 seconds. That's right kids, a 550 shot on a 4 bolt iron block with a ported FAST 90/90 intake. Good times.

I cut a decent light .181 to his .165, went a 1.31 60' and a 5.495 @ 127.74. Jason had some issues hooking up on the line and we ended up winning with a new best of 8.589 @ 157.04 to his 8.922 @ 160. We didn't blow it up either with a 550 shot, which is always a plus....

We ended up walking away with a nice trophy and a $1000 in cash.

Needless to say, I feel pretty good. My uncle and I assembled a motor in our garage with used pistons and won this thing. I wouldn't have bet on that happening!

I need to thank Kurt Urban for his advice. He saved me from buying an entire set of pistons for this race and walked me through getting the used ones ready to go back in.

We'll have pics/vids up in the next few days.....

Congrats on your win. That truly is a beautiful and fast car you got there. The turnout for the event was rediculous, I made 2 passes in 7 hours. I don't even know how many classes they had for this event. There were some seriously fast import and domestics there though. I still think some of the rules for some of the classes tended to be import favored.

Thanks guys! I think with a different gear an 8.4x is all this motor's got (still pretty stout for how simple the setup is).

Time to upgrade........

Nice Job!

When I heard Justin ran an F-body in the final, I figured it had to be on here.
Too bad he couldn't put a pass together, as he had set his own PB with the .48 the same day!

Congrats - but question!

Do you think tracks would get the message when they held Domestic vs. Imports events if NO DOMESTICS SHOWED UP and the stands were empty!
