Results from Nova shakedown laps at the track yesterday
As some of you might know, my '70 Nova has been under the knife for a makeover in paint, adding a cage and such. Off the road since November 2006, yesterday was my first track outing since a race in Bradenton in early November 2006. The car had about 35 street miles and about 6 dyno pulls (best one is 408 rwhp), and I was a little nervous as I straped in for the first pass in a while. The Formula is a great car, but nothing compares to what was about to happen here!
The air was great (-1200 DA to start), Gainesville Raceway had just been scraped and drug so traction for some higher hp cars was a little iffy at first but once slick tired cars had put down some rubber and created a groove we were rocking!
I made 7 runs total, and could have easily made 3-4 more.
Made the first 3 runs on the M/T 275/60 radials, the best of the bunch being an 11.121 at 119.77 with a 1.542 60 foot and a little air under both tires.
I switched to the slicks, made one footbrake pass to an 11.17 at 118.45, then tried the transbrake with this result: www.photoreflect.com/pr3/orderpage.aspx?pi=0UKQ0016000099&po=99 (bunch more pics on that site as well, but that's the best launch I think).
The last three runs were all in the 11.20-range as we got a headwind and it warmed up over the day. All in all, not bad for her first track outing. A few things need to be fixed, but nothing major, and if all goes well, I'll be spraying her in six days!

Even an old guy never gets tired of looking at nice Chevrolets.
I guess everyone here knows the history of your car, right? I don't recall ever seeing a post about your car other than seeing a stock picture.
Now that we're spreading everything around with the new Prezz. How about sending some heat NORTH. It's not fair you get to race year round while others freeze and move snow.

Great numbers! Tha fact that those were just your first time out, shakedown passes just makes them all the more impressive! How much are you gonna spray it with? Can't wait to hear about the new numbers! Good luck!

Jakes Dad,
Based on your join date, the Nova would have been majorly torn apart since I started the project in November of 2006, thus not many mentions or photos. My 2000 Formula has been getting the brunt of the racing since the Nova was getting completed. And I don't know what warm to send you since we're getting a low of 25 here tonight and a high of 53 tomorrow. Maybe when I see 70s again I'll ship some up!
stealth,
Weigh w/ me before the project with a similar drivetrain, full 3" exhaust and a 5 point roll bar was 3500 lbs. Since the bar has been upgraded to a cage, I'd guess 3550-3575 somewhere. I'll hopefully get a chance to weigh it soon.

Excellent results Derek! I thought this was on old post someone brought up. I recall your Nova still running and then you decided to tear it down, hard to believe it's been that long. That is a great launch pic, good luck in the 2009 season. I may try some summit racing action in my SS.
