Default Think I hurt my car...

Took my car to the track tonight... NOT GOOD.

1st run, I ran a 13.19 @ 105.5, pretty sad for my mods (we will get to those in a minute). But I thought maybe it is the heat, air temp was around 80* and it was pretty humid. Pretty clean run.

60' -----1.988
330'-----5.599
1/8-----8.547 @ 83.783
1/4-----13.190 @ 105.570

2nd run, started about the same way, but got hung up on my 2nd to 3rd shift. I did not hit first, just would not go into third. Tagged the rev limiter a bit.

60'-----2.023
330'----5.662
DNF

3rd run, same as the second, could not get the car to go into third. Banged rev limiter pretty hard on the miss shift.

60'-----2.005
330'----5.506
DNF

4th run, granny shifted 3rd gear, ran a 13.512 @ 103.050. Another clean run, but even lower on power.

60'-----2.016
330'----5.680
1/8-----8.725 @ 80.920
1/4-----13.512 @ 103.050

5th run, granny shifted 3rd gear again, ran a 13.420 @ 103.117. Pretty clean on this one too. Air temp had cooled to about 70* by this point.

60'-----1.995
330'----5.649
1/8-----8.671 @ 81.570
1/4-----13.420 @ 103.117

First problem, where did 2.5 mph go from my first run to the last two runs? Did I hurt my engine tagging the rev limiter? Car ran and idled smooth while running and driving home. However, I went to a drive through restraunt on the way home, while in line the car did start surging for no reason. The RPMs were bouncing from about 900 to about 1300 for no reason while ildeling. I drove the car another mile to my house and let it idle in the driveway for about 5 minutes no surge.

Second problem, why is my car only trapping 105.5 anyway? When the car had K&N FIPK, Loudmouth cat-back, & 3.73s in the 10 bolt it ran this:

60'-----2.154
330'----5.733
1/8-----8.623 @ 85.668
1/4-----13.181 @ 107.464

^This was in good air, around 65* air temp.

Now I have this:

Suspension/Chassis:
BMR LCAs, BMR Rear Swaybar, BMR Adjustable PHB, Spohn Sub-Frame Connectors, Airlift Drag Bags, BFG DRs on 16" Wheels.

Engine/Exhaust/Induction:
LS6 Intake, Shaner S3 Throttle Body, 180* T-stat, SLP Crank Pulley, K&N FIPK w/Raptor Hood, MAC Mid-length Header & Y-pipe, SLP Loudmouth Cat-back

Drivetrain/Fuel:
Moser 12bolt w/33 Spline & Eaton & 3.73s, Custom 3.5" Driveshaft, LS6 Clutch w/updated Hydrolics, Racetronix FP w/booster cable

If you have read along this far (sorry for the loooong read) maybe you can help me out. I just wanted to be clear on what the car has. If it makes a difference; I installed the headers and intake about 1 month ago, I did not "feel" an increase in power? Car is on the stock tune that came form GM Thanks in advance for the help, you guys are great! Lets not even go into why my 60' sucks so bad... I'll save that for another thread.

i don't think anything is wrong with the car. my wife's car is very inconsistent, as well. it is all stock powertrain-wise except for removing air/egr, a lid, ory, and flowmaster muffler. back to back passes it will go from 81mph to 84 mph to 87 mph in the 1/8. no idea what's causing it. 1/4 traps vary as much as 7 mph on the same night. i am starting to lean toward a tune to see if it evens out, but i really don't care haha.

Could headers, Intake/TB, and a pulley throw the tune off that bad?

Keep it comin guys!

yes ....get it tuned and it should fix the inconsistency but also a 6 spd will be inconsistent if your not power shifting from one run to another but get it tuned...first

I don't think those mods are causing much trouble in themselves,
but the stock tune is not good for power (too rich by far, even
if things like COT don't get woken up) and headers may have
brought in some false trimming for even richer. However the
times don't seem out of line with mine, pre-heads-and-cam.

Whether or not you eventually tune, getting some scans (and
welding in a bung for a borrowed wideband meter, is a good
thing) will at least show you what's up. Not much to gain from
speculation alone.

Car will be going in for a cam swap and tune soon. I just wanted to get a good baseline, so I can see the difference the cam makes. So a tune is pretty much mandatory with headers. I thought I would be fine on the stock tune with just bolt-ons. Thanks guy, more opinions welcome!
