Default 2.73 to 3.73 Worth it??

Im running a 3600 Vig with 2.73's right now and considering swaping in this 10 bolt with 3.73's installed already but im curious to what gains i will see. Im running on just street BFG's 275's right now that actually hook halfway decent for not being a track tire.

60' - 1.864
1/8 - 7.99
Mph - 90.5

I also cut a 1.833 60' on my last run but stood the tires up at the top of 1st and lost a lil mph and only ran a 8.02 at 89 mph, i figure i was on a 7.8x run if they wouldnt have spun

I kinda wanna know how much 3.73's will lower my et and 60' and if ill pull a few more mph out of it.

Im not sure what times this relates to in the 1/4 mile but if someone would like to tell me that would be great.

3.73s are goin to make it a lil harder to.hook but if ya can get it to hook it will be worth the change

I think it's absolutely worth it. 2.73s shouldn't have even been available in LS1 vehicles. Especially when considering for how cheap gears are, it's a no-brainer. I figure you'll pick up .2 I'd pretty easily (if you can hook).

So i should pick up around .2 on the 1/8th with 3.73s over 2.73's if i can get my street tires to hook.

So would i pick up a few mph or so becuase i think with 3.73s id be shifting out of 2nd around 85 of so id get the bottom of 3rd before the traps

What does all this equate to in the 1/4...? 7.99 @ 90.5 is what in the quarter give or take a slightly better run. i think i left about a tenth on the table that night but was satisfied with a 7.99

how much would 3.73's knock of my 1/4 et and add mph based on your estimate of my 1/4 with 2.73's

I had 273s ,magnaflow c/b , SLP lid and went with a dead hook :
My previous best was
2.04 60 ft
8.8 @82.5mph 1/8
13.49 @105mph in the 1/4 1/4.

Then did 373s D/radials and went :
only got one run and had a DA @ the same as my previous
1.9 60 ft
8.4 @84mph 1/8
13.16 @106.5mph in the 1/4

I might of squeezed a 13.0 ,,if I didnt get kicked out .

Expect to knock off 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 with good traction .

.

Huge difference. Make it work, and you will love doing it.
As mentioned, it might not work right away, so you may have some work to do
with all the new torque multiplication.

It definatly sounds worth doing for the 1/4 mile but im afraid my 1/8 60's are gonna drop off alot due to traction and my et might be hurt by being in the 3rd on the big end just before the traps.

Would love to get a new torque arm and a set of DR's but just cant afford them at the moment but im prolly just gonna do the swap and hope for the best and have some fun with it to say the least.

Knowning you cant flat foot it till half way thru 2nd is always fun so it cant be that bad

Since noone else has told you what you should run in the 1/4 I will. A 7.99 in the 1/8 is like a 12.37-12.46 in the 1/4 and most times a car picks up 20-23mph in the 1/4 some times more.

like the other guys said. i picked up 2 tenths in the 1/8th with street tires. but over all it made the car more fun to drive. it actually felt like a hot rod. once i put in a stall with my 3.73's the street tires were totally useless....now thats fun.

Just pick up a 6 speed rear end. There 3.42 gears and would still be a good gain from the 2.73's. You can get a 3.42 rear cheaper than you could do the 3.73 swap. Plus ive heard factory gears are stronger than aftermarket. I dont know how true that is. Ive been 1.53 60ft with my m6 rear.
