1st time out in my 79 Stock ls1 ran 11s
I've been building my 1979 camaro into a drag racer over the past couple years & finally got it running last week. I put about 6 street miles on it & nothing broke so we took it out to a t&t night at gateway. The motor is from an 01 SS its all stock execpt for ARP rod bolts, a underdrive pulley & swap headers but nobody believed me. I was only expecting mid to low 12s.....
1st pass
1.78 -60
12.21 @115.39
i bounced off the rev limiter in 1st & totally missed the 2-3 shift
2nd pass
1.78 -60
11.867 @118.45
still hit the limiter on the first shift
3rd pass we bumped up the 2 step a bit. (only 4800)
1.61 -60
11.45 @ 119.50
I still cant shift the 1-2 fast enough to keep it off the limiter
anyways I was very happy to go that fast the first time out with a brand new car. Once I get some more practice with launching & shifting & have a bigger cam some patriot head & some spray waiting to go on it, my goals are to run 9s with a stock bottom end. Then I wana build a turbo motor & switch over to an th400 & go 8s

whats that things weight and tranny. i have a 3060lb mustang race weight , stock engine it traps 113 and now a v3 cam now traps 120. What are you doing that iam not haha.
good job sounds like it will be nasty
never mind i just seen you have a t56, wish it was cheap to swap i'd be all over that

There is no way it traps 119 without a cam in it... maybe only an LS6 cam, or some other sleeper cam, but no way it is a stock 01 LS1 cam... like said above, I've seen way too many of them run numbers like his - you are only a couple hundred pounds lighter at best, and physics says it ain't so...

agreed! There are full bolton m6 ls1 f-bodies on this site trapping 115 at 3200-3300lbs(nSSane02). I dont see why a 2800lb car with the same setup couldnt turn 118. Weight is one of the biggest factors to going fast! You never see a fat kid win a 100m dash do ya?

I owned 2 2nd gen Camaro's and they are an incredible platform to make a drag car out of. They weigh 3200-3300 stock and you can simply remove 200-300lbs of crap. The bumper supports are enormous, especially the front one. They have 8.5" 10-bolts which can be built strong as hell, and tons of suspension goodies. If you rip the whole interior out and just run 1 Kirkey it would be 2950ish at the most. Congrats on the times!

Nice times and mph. I see no reason why the mph isn't believable, as said already, bolt on, m6 f-bodys run 113 - 115 consistently. Mine ran almost 117 at full weight in great air...with 145k miles
