Default Stock 2002 Trans Am (Not WS6) 1st time @ track

So I decided to go to the strip and have a little fun. Had the '02 T/A about a month now. A lot to learn in 1 day.

1st I had to learn the burnout with a 6 speed with no line lock. Lol and remembering to turn the TCS off. I only did that once but it was embarassing at the time but funny after.

2nd I had to learn how to leave on the brake and launch AND not blow the tires off or tire shake my teeth out. (I did both)

I did learn a lot and had a lot of fun. 5 runs total with a huge improvement each run.

My buddies '99 Firehawk had a best time of 13.70

My ride:

Bone stock '02 T/A (Not WS6) with a SLP lid only and stock 16x8 street tires: I didn't list the 5th run cause I tried to launch a little harder and I rattled my teeth out and I backed out for a second or so to be able to see. Track was really tacky and I'm no master of the clutch yet.

1st run:
60' 2.235
330 5.995
1/8 9.023
MPH 81.56
1/4 13.77 @ 101.36

2nd run:
60' 2.134
330 5.878
1/8 8.882
MPH 82.15
1/4 13.605 @ 104.10

3rd run:
60' 2.112
330 5.853
1/8 8.837
MPH 82.60
1/4 13.537 @ 104.70

4th run (Best run)
60' 1.987
330 5.748
1/8 8.725
MPH 83.24
1/4 13.359 @ 106.79

You ran pretty decent times IMO. Got into the low 13's on that last run which isn't bad at all for a beginner with a 6 speed, very nice.

I think those are pretty good for your first time. Do you have any racing experience prior to this?

Never been on a dragstrip in my life. I have been around them a lot but never on one. I thought low 13's for a 1st time was pretty good. Especially with a M6 and with my buddies Firehawk running 13.70. I can't wait to go again.

With some practice you could probably hit low 13's pretty easy.

I've been hitting the track for about 10 years now and I can honestly say you did extremely well for your first time out. Nailing a 1.98 in a 6 speed on street tires isn't an easy task. Nice work man, you'll be able to nail a 12.9 with a little more practice imho.

The problem with these LS1 cars is they make automatic drag racer out of anyone that has the pleasure of owning one.

Congrats on the times and just to let you know I took our stock 2000 non WS6 T/A to the strip back in the day and 13.6's is what it ran with a lid so you are on target!

Another racer has now got the bug!!

Thanks for all the kind words. I really was worried that someone would say look at that idiot happy he ran 13's. But honestly, I bought the car a month ago for 6k to have fun with and it was fun. Maybe one day I'll be fast enough to run a respectable time for now though, I'll need a second job to help fund the Money Pit. I really want to keep it streetable. I kinda like the 24 mpg. It does need a clutch, tires, headers, exhaust and a tune. For now that's where I'll stop. I just want to go have some fun with it. I really think with tires alone I could break into the 12's or break a rear end.

Congrats! That is damn good for your first time out in an M6. I actually had a very similar experience in mine the first time out as well. I went from a 14.6 (dumping to clutch from nerves), to 13.5,13.4,13.2 (best run of the day). I couldn't manage better than a 2.2 60' though.

1.9 60' on street tires in an M6 is pretty impressive! Good job and keep at it. It gets addicting, let me tell you that. Since then I have around 60 passes on my car and I can't get enough lol. Have fun with it.

Not bad... it took 3 times out and good weather for my 13.1 @ 108mph 2.1 60ft bone stock pass.... DA during the first two trips was 2000ish and learning to drive the car put me right around your numbers. A little more practice and some negative DA and you might even get a 12 out of it.

Check out this site for tips...

I slipped the clutch out at 2200rpm for my best times.

Thats awesome for the first trip. I took my 99 ws6 car stock other than whisper lid and fm 80 series from 13.9 to 13.24. it trapped pretty consistent 109+ w a da of 2200'. The car was lowered on sportlines at the time. I have been down the track a lot in automagics, these m6 cars are a lot tougher to launch.

My best time was launched from idle believe it or not. No tire screech and it kinda bogged a little when I let out on the clutch.

yup very idential to my first time in my T/A I had some experience in my ls1 powered 82 vette and both were 6 speeds, but I did forget the T/C a time or two cause i dindt know it autoamticly came back on everytime you cut the vehicle off. times are almost identicle to mine I think I ran a 13.4 flat in mine stock running nitto drag radials that wont much better than streets i cut a best of 1.9 also but the track I go to is pretty crappy on traction

So the Nitto's weren't much better than street tires? That's what I was looking to get for a DR. Want the BFG but gotta wait for tax money to come in. Here is the link to trip #2. Getting a little better. Still spins from 2nd to 3rd too.
