Default LS2 Chevelle track results

Previously LS1 with less head porting and similar cam the car went:

1.72 60ft 7.45@95mph 1/8th 11.67@115mph (~900ft DA)

New combo made it's first outing Fri night, but I was on street tires. DA sucked hard but I am still thinking I'm a little bummed with the trap speeds.

DA was 2800+ ft.

I was averaging 90mph in the 1/8th and 113-114mph in the 1/4. I'm hoping it's due to a combination of shitty air and how bad it was leaving on street tires. It would blow the tires off all through first no matter what I did and several times continued boiling them in 2nd.

I finally started rolling out just a few feet around half throttle in first then just bumping it to 2nd so I could flat foot it. This caused a bad bog but no spin. Best pass this way was a 12.55@113.87mph.

The tune is spot on other than shift points with 27* timing, no KR, and 12.8 afr. IAT are hot as always but I'm hoping to try to get a cold air intake rigged up before I go back. I was seeing as high as 104* in the staging lanes.

2.08 was my best all night doing the short shift immediately into 2nd before going WOT method, most were 2.12-2.22 range.

Hmmm...I don't think the 60ft is really affecting mph, but the quick jump to 2nd probably is

I'm not going to worry too terribly until I get it to hook for a pass. My car has always been overly sensitive to DA as well compared to my friend's 2011 GT who goes with me most trips.

The only other thing that has changed since my best ls1 pass is the hood. My old hood had the cowl opened up which I know pulled air in from the windshield because leaves would get sucked to the screen but the hood wasn't sealed to the engine so I didn't think much of it...the new hood is blocked off back there because I haven't had time when I was some place with tools to cut the factory block off plate out. I can't imagine it mattering much if at all though.

No doubt the DA was definitely worse, and that's definitely a part of it. What kind if CAI or ram air are you looking at doing?

This is how it is currently set up:

I am looking at rerouting the upper radiator hose with an S to drop it down so that I can run the filter over behind the driver side headlight. Once it's there I can also cut the metal under the filter so that it's drawing in outside air. Not sure it will help any but it's the best I can do.

In theory it sounds like it should help. How much is hard to say obviously. Anything should be better than where it's currently at lol.

Was this at the same track as before?

Yup. Same track.

Think I will order some Hoosier radials today. I have been using MT ET Street Radial in the past but the Hoosiers are lighter and I've heard stickier as they are more like a slick than a true radial.

size is 275 50 r15

I had a buddy that switched to Hoosier from a MT and said they did better as well. I agree...don't sweat it till you get things setup right, and give it another shot

The Hoosiers were more consistent with my car than the MTs. As you have stated, the air and the tires were killing you.

Thinking about it I think the car is doing pretty good since it's backhalfing harder than before seeing as how even with a slower 1/8th it's running a not too far off 1/4.

Maybe next week I can get back on the good tires and get more solid passes.

I know it's running healthy because it just came off the dyno last weekend and my logs at the track show it's moving a lot of air through the MAF (which in turn is tuned accurately because my PE and actual wideband AFR are spot on WOT). Just need to get the power to the ground then fine tune shift points for best ET.

The air will still be crap from now until October but if I get the rest of the car dialed in that should make for some strong passes once we get some sub 1000ft air.

.4 + slower 60 foot is costing you between a half and full second alone , bad air and higher intake air temps straighten all that stuff out and you will be happy

You can run the filter down to below the radiator on the passenger side like I did in my Cutlass. Similar clearances. It works great, get IATs just a little above ambient...unless it's really, really hot out and I'm sitting in traffic for forever. The road surface, it gets hot! Oh, and don't worry about rain...but look out for puddles...

Ha, these outta work...softest tires I've ever seen and they have nothing for tread but some rectangular wear indicators.

325/50-15'S? Those will make some noise!

Where is the track in NW Arkansas? My fiancée's family lives in Fayetteville, and I was just out there late March. Definitely a growing area.

275/50

If these don't work I will find new wheels before ordering next time and step up the the 295 or 325 (either of which will be taller and wider). I'm trying to stick with a 26" for gearing advantage with the 3.42s

The track I go to is Mo-Kan in Asbury, MO (just outside Joplin). It's about an hour and 45 minutes.

Tulsa is about the same but I haven't been there in a long time. Seems there are always larger crowds and it's hard to get runs.

Centerville is another good one down closer Russellville, AR but they are 1000ft only track. They do tend to get much better DA and they prep the hell out of the track as they do a lot of 1/8th mile pro events and outlaw stuff.

Only race I've done since getting them was a no prep 1/8th mile. My line lock would not hold the tires enough to even do a burnout unless I was sitting in the water.

I did get it to dead hook for the one pass I was able to get them hot.

Since then I've fixed my brake issue I think and need to get a radiator leak repaired...but it's just been so damn hot I haven't been motivated...the hot air will mean 3000ft DA or more so times will be crap anyway which doesn't help motivate me.

I will report back as soon as I've ran the car again.
