Default Welp, busted rear end is my "track result"

It finally bit me. After years of driving to the track on factory rear ends.....I was nearly stranded. First pass of the evening, I popped a worm gear in the posi. As I coasted down the track, all I could think about was what the wrecker bill would be being about 2 hours from the house. Fortunately for me, I was able to limp it home. Just picked up a new carrier for cheap, with some 2:73s. Will definitely be purchasing a real rear end next year!

At least it didn't destroy anything else and as a bonus you made it home, I'm putting together a 2000 S10 with 6.0 + LSA supercharger on a stock rearend, Should be around 550 to the wheels...Don't think it's going to last long lol

You might be ok. I think this one was weakened after a 3rd to 2nd mis shift a few months ago. I killed the rear end before this one the same way. I think this time it was just delayed. And if your truck is automatic, you may enjoy many passes with it.

It's a 6-speed with 325-30-19 tires, I think I can make it last as long as I take it easy...But I already know that's not going to happen lol

Times are all over the place, but last outing it went 11.33 @137. Makes 765/900. Trap was gear limited, just picked up some 2:73s to take care of that problem. Race weight is 3,800.

Yea, it was always in the back of my mind. Funny thing is, both times the ring and pinion have come out unscathed. The actual gears are not the weak point.....it's the worm gears in the posi unit. And truth be told, this one would probably still be alive if I hadn't did the ole 3rd to 2nd stunt. Now, you on the other hand may have the opposite problem...as you have 4:10s. Tall gears are usually able to stand up to more abuse. Hopefully you get by at your track day, just don't get greedy and give all of it out the hole

Not sure how much it helps but I also have a Detroit Truetrac as well. As far as getting greedy with the launch, you an bet I most certainly won't....I never do lol.

Tru Trac might last a bit longer, but after I install this next carrier.....I'm not spending another dime on this 10 bolt. Next rear I put in is going to be a "from now on" unit.

Yep I don't blame you one bit! When mine goes it's straight to a 9, 12, or S60....even if that means the car is down a while longer due to having to fork out 2k plus

Also, glad you were able to limp it home. On top of the concern about the towing bill, I'd hate to ever have my Camaro towed due to being lowered. Would be real easy to get something torn up.

Go see the thread in FI section where we argue for pages on those numbers.

I told him that trap is for a lower HP car and he didn't believe me.

I understand that you don't believe the car makes what I say it does, and that's cool.....I guess the dyno wad rigged and or I lied.....even though I filmed the car on the dyno. We will also ignore the gearing as well.

Take a 3,800 f body with stock input/output shafts, on street tires, no two step, on a 10 bolt....and let's see your 9 second slip. With the recent gear swap, the car will now trap in the 140s.
