Default New Best...Not happy

I got a new best at Byron yesterday, but I am still unhappy. Only got in 4 passes. Only one was flawless. The rest had problems with the stock shifter.
I don't have the slip, so here is what I remember. Second pass. First trip to the track this year. So room for improvement.

60' 1.97
1/4 12.699 @ 111.36

Any advice on improving 60s? I have an M6 with 16" Nittos and 3.42 gear ( going 4.10 this winter). I was dropping the clucth around 3500 and I have done the drill mod. Car seemed to dead hook. I will check the vid clips of my launch.

Hmm, i really don't see why you aren't happy with your times. My only advice for improving the 60's is to get a 12 bolt and some ET streets, and dump the clutch around 6000.

Unfortunatelly, that is not in the budget now.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Hmm I run my 275/40/17 Nittos at 15psi cold do a 8-10 sec burn out and launch at 3500 rpm also and I have pulled a few low 1.8 60fts and I am at a 3420 Raceweight. but for the mods you have those are some good times.

My raceweight was 3520. Maybe my clutch is slipping. If I could get a 1.80 60 I would get a 12.47 or something. Minus 100 pounds another .1 for 12.37 or so. Yeah these numbers are ok for the mods, but my 60 needs help. But I don't want to just start buying parts with no change. What gear are you running?

I am on the stock 3.42s, but going with a 9" and 4.11s in the spring, I have a feeling the rear is going to break next time to the track , But then I can go launch the car how it is suppose to be launched!! You shooting for 11s SI then too?

If the car is dead hooking, the only way to get quicker is to raise the launch rpms. Drag racing with 3.42s is hard on the clutch. Id just wait till the 4.10s go in.

If the clutch is having problems it can hurt the trans. Like when the fluid boils and the clutch pedal gets stuck to the floor. At this point it doesnt diesengage when depressed. Then when you shift its like shifting without the clutch. I hurt my third gear synchro cuz of this.

What is SI? I would like to hit 11s with stock motor without headers. I will throw in the gear this winter, get some new tires and try again next year. The gear should take off some stress from the clutch.

You may take some stress off the clutch - but don't count on it.

Drag racing with an M6 and stock clutch, stock rear-end?? Not going to happen for long. Take it from an ex-M6'er. 6 Trannies - 4 different clutch types (nothing broke but taking a step up) and now a 12 bolt (3 diffent gear sets).

11's with a stock engine, no real add on's is going to be difficult. You'll need to get a very good clutch, built up the tranny, get a 12-bolt, suspension, rear-end and weight reduction.

Good luck on your quest.

I deffinately will need more suspension. The rear is a bandaided 10 with axles and a gurdle. I may go A3. Weight reduction is under thought. I plan on getting HP tuners this winter, so I can tune, change the gear, do the TB stop mod and drop emissions equipment. I can drop 100 pounds easily.

SI is stock internals, I plan on hitting 11s first thing in the spring, I am adding the LS6 Intake, 9" W/ 4.11 gears, Hals all around, Tuning, and some convo pros all around with Slicks and Skinnies and I will be in the 11s no prob .

Don't go to the A3 what fun is that when driving on the street, plus it is a lot of fun to row through the gears down the track!

I love row'n gears, but this trans is pissing me off. Been rebuilt 4 times with only 27k on it. I can't afford a race trans. The A3 would be temporary till I could get a race trans.

11s after all that should be easy for you.

I would be very happy with those time for your mods. Just curious how your launching. I took my stock SS, besides catback, and was running with 16" nittos and was having trouble with the launch. I was launching at 3,000, dead hooking and then the car would bog, killing my 60 time. Do you slip the clutch a little or just drop it? Maybe I should have tried 3,500 rpms. I was a little scared of busting my stock 10 bolt though. Also, what tire pressure were you running, I had 15 psi in mine, think that may have been a tad too low. Thanks for any help. Great times for your mods.

I just dropped the clutch at 3500 with 16psi. The car would dead hook, but slip the clutch a little.
