Default on cloud 9, unreal last points race!

Well, after having a rough beginning to my year (5 1st round losses in a row with red lights, all 1 hundredth or closer), I have had a decent year with 5 finals, resulting in 3 wins and a mini-wally. Somehow I got into 2nd place in points with 4 races left. Well after the hurricanes, we had 2 races left. The guy leading was ahead of me by 1 round, then 3rd place was a round behind me, so a very close group.

last week-all top 3 lost 1st round, so carry over!

this week-2 time runs, then rain finals are next week, so I knew there'd be no rain date! They got the track dry and everyone got one more time run.

1st round-guy leading points loses, I won with a .020 light and a 7.39 at 85 mph on a 7.33 dial-in (guy I ran had a bad light and couldn't run the # so I backed off). Guy in 3rd place in points wins.
2nd round-I won with a .021 light and a 7.346 on 7.34 dial. Guy behind me gets a bye-run, so we are still only a round apart, but I'm now in 1st and he's tied for 2nd.
3rd round-I lost, guy I ran had a .025 light and 1 over, so my .063 light was dead from the start! So the guy behind me in points needs to win to tie me. He loses his race! So I won my 1st track championship by 1 point over 2 guys tied for 2nd.

Unreal! Now I get to go to Atlanta for the NHRA division 2 finals on Thursday morning and run race of champions, as well as saturday's main event. Keep me in your prayers guys & gals; I think I've used up all my luck! Then again, I could always take the Formula.....

Derek

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.
With a few moments aside, I think I was the most nervous, excited and worried I've ever been racing before.

George, I think I'd be dreaming to be able to make Pomona again, so I'll sleep on the trip idea and get back with you...

Good luck in the Race of Champions! When was the last time you attended the Wiston (now POWERade) Finals in Pomona? Great to hear and hope you make it out here.

George,
I was there last year, drove the Formula from Florida to Cali, raced it, and drove home. About 5,000 miles round trip. Would love to make the trip again to represent division 2, but I know my chances are slim. I'll be trying my hardest though

Congrats, from one Track Champ (Huntsville Dragway, Super Pro) to another.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make the trip to Atlanta, so the guy that finished 3rd got to take my spot in the race of Champions. (the guy in 2nd annihilated his motor in Memphis at "the Million")

Our last night of points was a wild one too, but I don't wanna 'jack your thread tellin' about it!

Congrats again!
Taco

thanks Taco. Bummer you couldn't make it, this was my 1st ROC attempt, and I'm sure you understand they are hard to come by in division 2 tracks! Maybe next year we'll catch up?

A word of warning: racing points is just like going fast, it can be addictive!

hate to tell ya bro, but your about 2 years late with this warning, thanks alot. i have done alot of bracket racing and after lots of practice i have gotten my m6 very consistant. i think it would be a lil offer of proof of driver error instead of trans problem if a m6 car could place in a majority automatic race.
anyway its to late to get unaddicted so i may as well get more addicted.

well I tried, timing has never been my thing (no pun intended)! Amen to getting a stick-shift consistent enough to play, let alone win in an automatic world of bracket racing. But it can be done. Example: Kevin Helms, won 3 in-a-row national championships in stock eliminator running a 69 camaro at full weight with a big block, 4-speed and 30 x 9 tires in b/s or a/s and running as quick as 10.teens! That's a driver!
