Project pictures and NMCA/PRO-Edelbrock race results!
Well, I finally got a new album up and rolling for my project results. Sorry for taking a little long, but the direct link is http://community.webshots.com/album/316484469XLhPjk (or you can click the pic link in my sig and follow that as well).
The NMCA race report:
We arrived Friday at Bradenton to a 2200 DA and a 10-14 mph HEADWIND! We unloaded, bought memberships (required to participate in heads-up classes) and proceeded to tech. We also bought in for the Friday test and tune to make some check out runs. My best pass was 11.535 (on an 11.50 index) at 114.44 mph with a 1.571 60 foot (pulling the tires again feels awesome) So I figured I was in good shape for Saturday's qualifying.
Saturday arrives a little wet from the ensuing storms that past by overnight (lucky we were). Track was dried and up and running by 10 am! Now the DA is 1130 feet and we have a 10-12 mph TAILWIND! Talk about guessing games! My first pass was a 1.573 60 foot, 7.236 at 94.72 at the 1/8 (short-shifting 2nd gear at 6K rpm instead of 6500) and tapped the brakes to run 11.415 at 113.97 mph! I added 5 gallons of gas for the next run (about 30 pounds), and the run shows a 1.579 60 foot, 7.255 at 94.44 at the 1/8 (short-shifting 1st and 2nd gear at 6K rpm instead of 6500) and tapped the brakes to run 11.464 at 110.86 mph! Now down to my last shot to qualify (you must run at or above your index, otherwise you are at the bottom of the order and screwed for bye-runs and lane choices), I added 40 lbs more weight and ran a 1.579 60 foot, 7.266 at 94.19 at the 1/8 (same shift patterns) and lifted after the 1100 foot mark to run 11.587 at 101.19 mph! DA on this run was 485 feet
Sunday arrives cool at 58 degrees, and a DA of 200 feet BELOW sea-level at 9 am! I didn't make my first run until just past noon, and I added another 25 pounds of weight (to arrive at a race weight 3530 lbs).
1st round opponent is running a 13.00 breakout, and he cuts a 076 light to my 036 bulb. I chase him down, and give him the stripe as I never got past his door, and he breaks out running 12.892 to my 11.508 at 110.86 mph.
2nd round opponent is the reigning champion running a 10.50 breakout, and he cuts a 021 light to my sleepy 085 bulb. I get caught at 1200 feet, and he hits the brakes, as do I and he gets the win running 10.533 to my 11.515 at 109.19 mph.
The event was a blast, and 5 race buds also came and ran their cars. We had a great weekend, the air was awesome, and the people were very friendly! As an afterthought, I should have entered True Street (30 mile cruising on pump gas and street tires, then a 30 minutes cool-down in the lanes with no opening hoods, then rip off 3 back-to-back passes. Quickest average wins). Guy with a 1967 Chevelle running a big-block with EFI and a Procharger runs 10.09, 10.90 and then can't make the last run (stalls at the line)!!!!! The winner was a high 11 second mustang! Think I might try True street at South Georgia race in September with the 150 hp jets
My first points race of the season at Gainesville is this weekend.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, and sorry soooo long!
Derek

Excellent reading Derek! Sorry to hear about your loss, but hey he was the reigning champ. I kind of like that True Street format, sounds like fun. It's always better when your race-buds are there. Good luck this weekend and during the season. We are not (points) racing this weekend, just a private track rental, hoping for 10s.
