Launching on BFGs
I'm sure this has been discussed. How do you all do it? I have line locks so I smoke 'em up good then stage. I still have to slip the clutch to avoid wheelspin, only getting 1.80s.

I am getting mid-high 1.7's on 255/50/16 BFG DR's. I don't have a line lock yet so that was with a quick burnout. I launch at 4500rpms letting the clutch out fast, but controlled (kinda like dumping the clutch but instead, keeping slight pressure on the pedal all the way up the travel...thats the best way I can think to explain it). What rpm to launch at will depend on track conditions and power levels, IMO.

This is a BS statement, i am sure he knows that he can go to another tire and hook better. But he didnt ask which tire to go to. The BFG DR is more streetable and will work if used properly that is why he asked how other people launch.
I cant really help out on a 6-speed launch, but our auto car pulled as low as 1.50 60' on 275/50/15 BFG's and i know a vette owner that pulls mid 1.6's on 18" nittos. So it can be done. Here is a ttt for ya, hopefully you will get some more responses.

There is a guy on this board that has gone 9.90 with a 1.49 60' at 3500#
With witnesses. This was on 255/50-16 BFG Drag radials.
It was a turbo supra with a stick. Diff. car but same physics.
The ET is there you just have to find it.
I have gone 1.6 60' with my car at 3500# with the same tire. Dead hooking.

I have never ran BFG's but I have run Nittos alot and now M/T drag radials. On the Nittos i do a good 2nd gear burnout and tehn stage the car. Bring revs to 4000+ ( track dependent) and dump the clutch fast but leave gas peddle where it was on the launch untill the car jumps out and starts to bog but not untill it bogs. You will get your timing down after some practice and when you do , it will be consistent.
I pull consistent 1.68's to 1.72's on a regular track night and a best of a 1.64 on 315x35x17 Nittos. 1.67 on 245x50x16 Nittos.
ON the 255x60x16 m/t drag radials , I leave at 6000 rpms and smash the gas like I do on the et streets with a best ever 1.59 on the M/T radials. Usually in the 1.62 range . Not to shabby for a 3700 lb car
