Default 1st time with a M6... ever... results

Posted this kinda in the wrong section so here it is.. I'm not entirely thrilled with the outcome.

Mods that matter
Hooker Exhaust, ORY, LTs
Whisper Lid and Powershot filter
all free mods
EGR, AIR, rear o2 delete
Spec 3
Viper T56
Eibach Pro Kit
BMR K
SLp Bilsteins

Mods that hurt..

18x9.5 Chrome OE Z06 wheels
275/35/18 Kuhmo Tires
Bad driver

Its official... I suck at driving lol. Good weather at around 45 degrees no wind. First run I touch the damn rev limiter on 2 out of 3 shifts.

I cant figure out a decent launch. I ended up holding rpms at around 2300 and rolling out of the clutch. Tires at 28psi.

I only got to run 3 times about 25-30 minutes between run 1 and 2 and an hour and a half between 2 and 3 .

Here are the 3 in ORDER of which they occured.

First TIME EVER in a manual....

60' - 2.37
1/8 - 8.97 @ 85.08
1/4 - 13.49 @ 109.32

2nd run

60' - 2.21
1/8 - 8.69 @ 86.09
1/4 - 13.19 @ 109.98

3rd run(last one)Car was its coldest of the night

60' - 2.18 bogged a little more than the rest
1/8 - 8.67 @ 86.66
1/4 - 13.16 @ 110.29

Now I think I am short shiftin a little.. I do shift into 4th just before the traps. Should I be doing this? Or should I let 3rd ride out? I have a m6 with 3.42s. I do need a shift light bad.

I guess I didnt really expect traction considering I am running 275/35/18 street tires.

But I was a little disappointed since there was a bone stock 01 SS running 13.0@107. He was running a 17" drag radial and pulling 2.0 60's but I thought I should be well ahead of him with my mods. Guess I need that Ls6 intake after all I am only trapping 3mph faster

I do think I am shifting very well and very fast(almost power shifting). Just BARELY blipping the clutch maybe an inch and just slightly let off the gas. The Viper t56 and the Spec 3 felt great.

Let me know what you guys think.. see any problems? I do.. 13s still but I mean other that that...

Thanks
Brandon

Also, what mods should I consider NEXT. I was thinking a LS6 intake since the 01 was kinda close to my traps. Or should I go with some LCAs and a PHB? I want to run 12s in street trim before I go with some D/rs. I thought I would already be there. What should I do next guys?

Leave it in 3rd through the traps and see what happens. I usually drop 2-3 MPH when I shift into 4th.

I posted this but who knows what happened...

I didnt think 3rd would last that long. If I picked up 203 I would be trapping 112-114. At those speeds 3rd wont run out of gear??

Third gear will not get you through the traps with a stock rev-limiter. Even bone stock I had to shift to fourth. Trying to ride that rev-limiter is going to slow you more than making that last shift.

I dont think your doing to bad considering its your first time racing a 6spd. theres a huge difference in driving a 6spd and racing a 6spd. Those 3.42s are killin you also. Trust me I know what they feel like. I ran my Heads/Cam setup before I got the rearend with 3.42s and it fell on its *** every shift. You have yourself a 12second ride, just practice with it and play around with different launching techniques. Also go ahead and get the LS6, it will help quite a bit especially on the big end.

Practice, man practice, your 60 foots need to come down, but your mph is good for mid/high 12's, so the power is there all you need is traction and track time

Thanks guys, I'm just a tiny bit dissapointed that I didnt break into the 12s. Even though it was my first time at the track with a manual.... I thought for sure I'd be able to touch 12s last night. Guess its time for more mods.

Will the LS6 intake gain much time? I've heard they are good for 10-12rwhp on a stock car... is that correct? If so then with my LTs and free flowing exhaust make it gain a hair more?

I want to run 12s in street trim pretty consistantly... then I will slap on the D/rs. Until then I think these will be the next purchases this month.

U/d pulley - 4-5rwhp
Ported/polished TB - 3+ rwhp
LS6 intake - 7-15 rwhp
LCAs - might aide in traction?

That should do it right? I would imagine after those I should trap around 113+ right? Since I am slightly above 110 right now

Weren't you thinking of selling your car? If you decided against that's cool.
Yeah, you'll lose speed trying to run through the traps in 3rd, I smack the limiter a fair ways before the line so just shift to 4th because of it. I wonder what raising the limiter to 6500 would do for top speed in 3rd.
And so you now, those 60's are still about what I pull, and I have ~50 passes at the track on my car. Still have the stock 275/45/17 Eagle F1's, so I can't get any better than that. I use the same launch technique as well, r3ev to around 2500 and then slip the clutch slightly.

113 might be tough with the stock cam, but you never know.

I do have my limiter raised so maybe that's why I can hold 3rd. I've trapped as high as 113.74 staying in 3rd.

Those are some good numbers, pretty even with my set up. 2000 M6 w/ free mods, lid, ls6 intake and cut-out only, best et 13.109 @ 108.35 w/ 2.030 on street tires, best mph 13.16 @ 109.43 w/2.143 60'. practice should get both of us knocking on the 12's, an Ls6 intake for you and LT's for me would surely put us there. Or DR's of course.

I made 13 passes friday tring to hit the 12's, it just wasnt there for me. Don't sweat it about that stocker 02 SS running close to you, DR's on yours and you would have left him. Also you want to hit 4th with a stock tune with 3.42's, my shift light is set at 6000 and it comes on a good distance from the 1320

I hit the rev limiter at 101mph in 3rd. You have to shift.

I just cant imagine a LS6 intake being worth that much power. I would think my LTs, ory, and catback with my weight reduction would be a few tenths quicker than a LS6 with lid.

I do think a shift light would be great for me. I think I am short shifting a hair since the first run I bounced the limiter going into every gear. I played it more safe on the next runs.

Also yeah, I know D/rs would do me wonders... esp since I was braking lose going into 3rd on the track.

Next time out if I run these 275/35/18s again what should I do with the tire pressure? I dropped them to 28lbs. But I know I cant gain much b/ the sidewall cant fex even with lower pressure.

I also need to replace the o2 before I go out next. I was and still am throwing a P1133 code. Never know what it did to my times

didnt see yoru post for some reason...

yeah the car is still for sale... just in no rush to sell it. I will continue to mod and drive it until a serious buyer enters the picture. Only reason I am selling is to replace it with a vette. So no rush
