Was down at the COFBA (Central Ohio F-Body) track rental at Norwalk with a couple of other Michigan buddies. Anyways, first time the car has been off jack stands since last October, this time with a Rossler T400.
No time for shakedown before towing about 200 miles down there. First couple of attempts, can't figure out why the car won't go over around 4000 rpm or so and is sputtering, but revs fine in park or neutral...silly me, forgot to delete the trans codes from the 4L60E.
Bill Wright from COFBA came to the rescue since I did not bring my laptop with my editor. Anyways, he had an unlimited version of HP Tuners...couple minutes later, the trans codes were turned off. Off to make a gentle pass...front shock settings 3 on the HAL's.
Brought her up to only 2600-2800 and boom, she's up on the license plate...lifted off too much too quickly. Slammed down. Seemed to be okay, but drove back to the pit to find not one scratch on the oil pan, trans pan, mufflers, or headers. However, the Madman SYAB's were crushed and the fronts twisted off, but no damage to the PA Racing K-member. But it's not that easy...the right front OUTER painted fender cracked completely in half along with the inner black plastic fender. A little red duct tape later on the fender...
I guess the LPE 427 had a wee bit of torque. This was with no two-step (still in the box)...glad I did not try to really leave hard. So, take her back up to leave off idle with the shocks on 12 (full firm).
Too darn tired to go get the timeslip, but it was 9.6 at 138ish with a very lazy launch. Oh, well. I smell some LOW 9's soon. By the way, you gotta' love those little MAC headers and 2.5" mufflers when you come a slammin' down. Decided one good run was enough 'til some more SYAB's, as I dub them, are on.
I had my in-car digital camera going on the wheelstand run if someone wants to volunteer to host it.
Also, I will pay a reward for a video or still pic(s) of the wheelie...we asked around, but people saw me struggle on the first runs with the trans code problems and thought it was more of the same, so, off the cameras stayed.
By the way, Turbo Jim (not a forum member), ran a 10.49 at 130 with his heavy 86 Turbo Regal with STOCK, untouched, unopened, internals 231 through full exhaust, stock trans (other than converter), stock rear, and 9" slicks. Torkman15 has my old heads/cam motor with a bit more cam, and ran 10.71 at 128+, granny shifting. He had a high 10.4x / low 10.5x run going until he pooched the 3-4. Oh, well. We had a GREAT time once again at the COFBA rental.
Pics forthcoming as the ones I took just now at night came out like crap. Take care. Dave
PS: I know my signature is too big, but I want a different picture showing a wee bit more angle! That was from the COFBA rental in October 2003 with Turbo Jim in the car.

PS: Videos if someone can host.
PS, #2: After looking at the video, mph was "only" 136 not 138, but more to come as the converter is a bit loose and I was short shifting big time.

Thanks for hosting them, Brady. Anyone have a spare RH 98-02 red Firebird fender for sale, let me know. I'll be ordering one soon, if not.
The thing came up so darn quick it startled me because I left so softly and the shocks were not on full-soft. Oh, well. Too bad I did not keep in it a bit longer and kept the wheel straight...if so, I might have just needed some more SYAB's.
The car is fine, but I'm finished with racing up here...I've been up here in Michigan for 12 years and am moving back to Texas this summer as I have older parents that aren't real well. Anyways, look for the car at the Dallas area tracks this fall, but not before it may spend a bit of time with Madman for a full cage and some sissy bars in the back.
I wonder what she'll run this fall with a good launch vs. that off-idle pansy launch I did the 9.68 with.
Take care and safe travels and racing to all. Dave
