Default Roll cage. Hurt or help?

I put a roll cage in my 94 Z28 and it slowed me down 2 tenths. My 98 is getting real fast going 99.98 mph in the 1/8 all motor. and I plan on spraying it. And a few more mods are on its way. Its mostly just a track car. Ive had the cage for a while. I just hate for it to hurt my ET. Its a mild steel cage. I was wanting to see some time comparisons before and after the cage install. The track I got to doesnt care if I run with a cage or not.

Are we talking a 6pt? Mild steel 6 pt should only be about 75-85lbs. I don't see that costing you .2. Have you been keeping track of the DA when you run. That can explain lost or gained time alot.

BTW: Are you saying you lost .2 in the 1/8?

A roll bar or cage won't change your 60 foot times (unless when it was welded together, it wasn't done square and it's screwing up your chassis specs, alignment, or suspension set-up somehow.

I doubt it's a full cage, probably trying to say a roll BAR, but keep the rule of thumb in mind on weight:
100 lbs = 1 tenth

So 200 lbs could easily be 2 tenths.

As GM Muscle mentioned, 60-80 pounds could be added with a standard 5-6 point roll bar (mine added 65 lbs, and thus the car slowed down a little).

Just my thoughts...

Yes my old car had a 8 point bar in it. My 60 foot dropped from a 1.5 to a 1.7. I have a new car now and a 10 point cage. It could of been the car was not square. So if everything is square. And I put a mild steel 10 point cage in my car. Do you see it hurting me that much?

Not a whole 2 tenths. 1 tenth I could see. **** you're saying 2 tenths in the 60ft alone. I can't see that cage costing you 2 tenths, or even 1 whole tenth in the 60ft.
Were the track conditions the same?, it's been hot. Tires getting worn? Trans starting to slip? Getting any knock retard in this heat? You been eating too much?

LOL. Like I said before that was with my old car. Went from a 1.56 60 to a 1.7x. That was 2 years ago. Im about to install this cage and I wanted others input to see how much it has hurt or help.

obviously a roll cage is going to slow you down because it's adding weight... so it hurts in that aspect but it sure the hell is gonna help if you run into a wall going 100mph

and it'll also help in chassis stiffness if the car doesn't have a rollbar or subframe connectors beforehand.
