Default 05 Evo VIII v. 98 Z28

This is from a different posts, just figure I would put in the right place since this doesn't involve me getting in the 12's. Here is the post
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...44#post4655844

Went out to the track again this weekend with both of our cars without any passenger or rear seats and spare like usual. My set up has changed from having the flowmaster catback to the LM2 and some LCAs, which helped plant the power better but just put me sideways cuz of my crappy tires (Fuzions). so my times didnt approve from the above post. My best of the day was a 13.092 (going sideways through first)

As for my brother's evo 8. That thing spanked me as predicted but he broke into the 11s. He has the same set up as the above post just with pure 100 octance instead of a mix 93 and 100. here are his numbers

RT: 1.019
60ft: 1.624
594ft: 7.263
1/8: 7.741
1/8 mph: 94.10
1/4: 11.931
1/4 mph: 115.96

I'll never give up my fbody but damn does that thing temp me.
Any thoughts besides a good pair of slicks or dr's, to help me from keeping the car sideways in first gear?

I thought the 05 Model was the Evo 9? Anyways, they run alot harder stock then the smaller turboed original of 03/04. Obviously your brother is modded. I think you need nitrous to run with him, or a Trex cam. Running the times he is, it would take a well modded LS1 to catch up. I'm sure he dropped quite a bit of money into though, so don't feel bad.

Looking at your sig I would like to make a few suggestions. If you havn't bought the 3.73's yet then you may want to reconsider that purchase. They are a definate must have but putting them in a stock 10 bolt rearend is not the best idea if you drag race. Reason being is if you break the 10 bolt while launching (and many of us do or will) then you'll want to replace it with a 12 bolt or 9" rearend. You have to check a box with what gears you want in there and that is the prime time to get 3.73's since it does not cost anything extra.

What your car really needs right now is a torque converter. 3500-4000 stall with a tranny cooler would make a night and day difference on your car. Add drag radials and a little practice to this formula and you can see some 1.7 60' short times and mid to low 12's for ET.

Spray on top of that and your brother will be seeing your taillights! But you definately need some drag radials in the back. M/T hook the best but are the worst in rain and tread wear. Nittos are the best in rain and last the longest but hook the worst (although I did get a 1.7 from mine) and BFG's are a nice medium of the two.

Good luck.

05 was the last year for the Evo 8. The 03/04 Evos had a few differences than the 05 model. ACD, LSD front, fixed some computer bugs, trans/transfer case issues, and a 10.5 hotside turbo (v. the 03/04 9.8 hotside). The gain has showed to be about 25-30 hp difference between the turbos. The Evo 9s have showed to have 30 more than the 05 8s, the factory rating of 286 is quite low, engine hp wise they are more like 330-340 stock.

And not that much into my car, basic bolt-ons and an ECU reprogram, and a heavy foot

The times in your sig are the ones you ran with the mods listed?

Yep, those are the new current times. I think I can get my race setup to a lower et, I just need to play around more with tire pressure and shift points.

I agree, just add a converter and drag radials and you will be right there. For less than 2K, I got the car into the low 12s @ 111. Now with the longtubes and cam, I should be somewhere in the mid to low 11s and I haven't touched my gears.

I thought they ran faster. I had a local guy here with an EVO 9 trying to hustle me. He had the same mods as you, as far as I can tell, but had upper intercooler piping and a bigger turbo with FMIC.

I am on the stock 10.5 turbo, stock injectors, and stock cams. As far as I know there isnt many running in the 11s on my setup. Most have cams and/or meth injection.

Evo9s with less than my mods have been running 11s from what I have seen. If he has gone to an upgraded turbo then they can easily do 11.5 or better. Upper IC piping is all show, no go. It just looks nicer than stock. The FMIC gets you maybe 15-20 hp, but for $1000, Id rather spend my money on something else. The stock FMIC has proven to be more than enough for stock or near stock turbos. Guys with t3/t4 or giant turbos will need an upgraded FMIC.

Haha, I wish I had more displacement - sometimes. For an Evo to run 10s thats a lot of money and broken parts. Have fun teaching him a lesson at the track. (BTW - I just noticed your in IL, its not an AMS shop car you are racing? They will run 10s or 9s, I believe they have the current record at 9 something. They have build a few really nice 900 whp Evos, and they are serious cars.)
