Default Shakedown runs on new 402

I finally got a little over 400 break in miles on the car, so I finally got a chance to get it to the track. I weighed the car in at 3600 lbs with me in it and drag tires on. Details on the car are in the sig. DA was 650-700 while I was running. Absolutely beautiful weather. I ran the car in open loop since I was still tuning my VE tables. But anyway, here's how the first runs went.

Run 1:
1.527 60'
11.231 1/4mi
121.34 1/4mph

Run 2:
1.518 60'
11.249 1/4mi
125.26 1/4mph. Left lane run, mph ~4mph high

Run 3:
1.520 60'
11.320 1/4mi
124.80 1/4mph. Left lane run

Run 4:
1.531 60'
11.192 1/4mi
121.93 1/4mph

Run 5:
1.531 60'
Got squirrely and lifted.

I had a few people ask if my car was a manual tranny because it was taking so long between shifts LOL I'll have it professionally tuned next week and I'll have them shorten up the shift times. A better tune and some more suspension tweaks and I might see a high 10 on motor. I was told that I had 3-4" of air under the front tires off the line, and I know I can do better. I have to check the thrust angle (I think thats what it was called) to make sure the relocating brackets are on exactly right. The car wants to launch and push to the right.

All in all, it was a great day. I couldn't be happier!

Very nice results for shakedown passes.

It's bit odd that with better 60' time and higher trap speed, your ET was higher on left lane than the right lane.

I believe the ET difference between lanes is more attributed to the height of the lights of the track. Lowered cars like f-bodies always seem to read ~4mph higher on the left lane. Two of my timeslips are nearly perfectly identical except for the final mph.

My buddy has the same setup in a 00' SS. Last year he went 10.81@130mph. Now he has a new cam and we are heading to the track tomorrow. I'll let you know what he does.

What track was this at, in Mich somewhere? There is a local 1/8 track (Lakeland dragstrip) that is 2mph fast in both lanes compared to the same ET and DA at Orlando or Bradenton but I`ve never heard of a track recording the wrong mph in one lane only!!

Yes sir! This was at Midmichigan Motorplex. It's pretty much the best (consistently) maintained/prepped track in Michigan. It happens a lot there to cars that sit low. Heres an example from yesterday. Runs were 50 minutes apart.
Right lane...............left lane
R/T....0.281..............0.261
60.....1.527..............1.518
330...4.584..............4.604
1/8....7.151..............7.172
mph...95.91..............95.92
1000..9.369..............9.388
1/4....11.231............11.249
mph...121.34............125.26

Those runs are near exactly the same, and I didn't let off early on either run.

Nice runs, the mph is there for a 10 second pass.

4 mph between lanes, damn! The break-down shows I guess they need to fix some angles!

Good luck getting her faster!

hopefully you will get some things figured out with tuning. you should be 60'ing in the mid 1.4X range, IMO. was it hooking hard?

get that 60' down and the shifting figured out and I bet it will go mid 10's. it should with that motor combo anyway.

not bad for shakedown runs though!

It was hooking pretty well. This was my first time out with bias ply tires all around, so I wasn't dropping the rear tire pressure as much as I probably could. It felt like I got maybe 1/4 to 1/2 turn out of the tires before they bit hard, but it was still good enough to get 3-4" under the front tires. I only got 5 runs in, so after a few more tweaks to the suspension (especially the QA1's now) it should do alright. The air was probably the best I've raced in in a long time. Racing in michigan usually feels like racing in a rainforest or swamp. It'll probably be 85-85 and 85% humidity for the rest of the year

It was also running a little lean off the line. I was tuning my ve tables and could have used a little more fuel at the starting line.

But I'm confident I'll get some 10's on motor out of it. I'm extatic about its initial performance. I was hoping for 11.2's on motor (and 10.1's on spray) at the END of season, not the BEGINNING.
