Smile New Times for my Twin Turbo 98 Camaro

Finally got some good weather - at least for up here. Track was great both Saturday and Sunday, well prep, weather similar on both days.

Saturday was a loss as I had some serious traction issues. Every pass, 1 to 2 shift would cause the SS kick the rear end out and had to fight the car the entire pass. This got really sick'n. Total of 6 passes on Saturday. Best of 9.62, with a best of 1.41 60'.

Sunday. We decided to change back to my old Hoosiers - 30x10.5x15R vice my new M/T 29.5x10.5x15S.

1st pass on Sunday: (Same set-up as Saturday except the tires)

60': 1.397
1/8: 5.926 at 117.568 (my 1st 5 second 1/8)
1/4: 9.266 at 145.724 (new best)

2nd pass on Sunday: (Increase 2-step to 3900)

60': 1.336
1/8: 5.840 at 118.283
1/4: 9.166 at 146.197

3rd pass on Sunday:

Found the limit of the tires out the hole on boost - set 2-step to 4100 and it blew the tires off. Oh well.

OH BY THE WAY - THIS WAS ON 8LBS OF BOOST We are getting close to our goal of 8 second pass on 8lbs of boost. Next race in 2 weeks.

Big thanks to Joey (my sponsor/builder/tuner) and Ryan (best damn helper/pit crew).

Here's the time slip

That was our purpose this weekend, but sometimes **** happens. Can you believe it - we have only 2 more weekends of racing left this year - our track closes September 17th

I would love to be able to travel and race. This gas **** has made many of my plans go out the window.

Thanks Derek - was thinking the same thing - a great run, smooth as glass - and an .034 light . Even though I have only TNT this year, I have really tried to keep in practice with the tree. You never know.

I would love to come for a month, race and visit with yourself and Eric (Next). Gas price (and my 8 mpg tow rig) is really restricting my plans. I doubt I'll even be able to make it to N/S race

Yep!! On just 8lbs of boost - at 4100rpm's the twins are making close to 600rwhp. Off the transbrake and 2-step, it will flash at little over 5500-5800rpms (closer to 700+rwhp).

Turbos are scary fast -- last Friday, re-tuned the SS. at only 14lbs of boost - the SS hit 850rwhp at 4700rpm's and carried it all the way to red-line - 6900. (I know I can spin the SS higher, but why risk it). The twins can spin to 22-24lbs of boost

Go to a professionally prepped track and the hoosier 30" X 10.5R may perform well. I have yet to see it and I have given those tires every opportunity and $$$ spent on my suspension to try and make those tires work. They didn't.

Speaking from experience on my car with limited RWHP on a **** hole track those Hoosier R tires suck big time. I personally have around 10 passes on my car with ME at the wheel with the Hoosier 30" X 10.5R tire and I blew the tires off 8 of those 10 passes. I mean blew the tires off and hit the rev limiter. No chance to recover the pass. I mean I race at **** hole tracks and NOT HRP or NPR or any other professional track. I lost my season because of those tires.

Sorry for the rant and the highjack but those tires suck. I would not recommend them to the everyday bracket racer unless they run at tracks that prep professionally.

Check my sig. They are MT's bias. nuff said

Tom I really do feel for you. You car is awesome. I personally believe every car will run different on different tires. I wish I could have had a video of the 9.16 pass. Dead hook, dead straight. Launched at only 3950, but that is because of the turbo build boost so fast that any higher will blow them off. I'll settle for 1.30's any day - on boost . Front 3; rear 6; tire pressure 17-17.5lbs. I have cut my burn-outs to about 1-2 second. These are also the same tire that put the SS on the rear bumper.

Here's a footbrake pass. Nothing special about our little country track. I do know nothing can save the track when the track temp is hot - we have seen 140-155 track temps.

I wish it would have gone better for you.
