Default 1st timer at the track...

Finally made it to the track after owning the car for a year in a half. I have read tons on how these cars are at the track but I just wanted to toss this out there to get some feedback. The basics: 120k motor, 275 Kumho Ectas all seasons (They were my friends long story, blew my right rear GSD3 two weeks ago and don't have the $300 to replace it ) the weather was decent for AZ, it was at night so about 80 degrees. track prep decent

1st run:
Just rolled off the line, shifted slowed, and forgot to turn off traction control
2.4X 60'
14.4 at 103.2 mph

2nd run:
Dropped the clutch at 1300ish rpm (tires turned over about 3 times and went) shifted moderate 50% (turned off traction control)

2.27 60'
14.026 103.7 mph

3rd run:
More aggressive launch (more spin maby 7-10ft) faster shifts 60%

2.34 60'
14.025 104.11 mph

4th run:
Even more aggressive launch (1500 rpm dump, had to feather gas) even faster shifts maby 70% of full potential

2.39 60'
14.121 104.7 mph

I knew that the only way to really launch these tires on the street is by slipping the clutch but i wanted to see what I could do by dumping. The other reason was i wanted good reaction times so i could beat my buddy in a 02 WS6 (I cut a .078 vs. his .788 and beat him by .2 sec even though he ran .5 sec faster E.T. ) I would just drop the clutch and hold the gas until the tires stopped spinning and applied the gas as needed without increasing spin. Anyways, as my runs when on I became more aggressive with my shifts netting consistently higher traps but tire spin became worse into every gear. On the last run I spun 3/4 of second (rpms didn't drop below 5500 rpm) third spun a few feet and fourth spun over 2-3 times. Plus i was loosing traction at the top of 1st slightly as was indicated by my SRC light on my first run. I wanted to power shift but was afraid I'd just spin more plus i haven't practiced in a while. Other things, I tried shifting at 6k every run, didn't have a problem hitting the limiter or anything. On an interesting note my buddy the same night with the same rear tires as me in his 02 WS6 (lid, QTPs, True Duals, Shaner S3, UD pulley) wasn't getting near the spin I was having into gears (he couldn't even chirp third) while I was spinning 4th. Now he does have a stock clutch and it wasn't too happy and I have an LS2/LS7 setup it. Having a new and strong clutch which is heavier going to make for all the spin into the gears i got or is something wrong with my suspension???? I was just getting spin not wheel hop. Sorry for being so long but I'm just extremely excited about getting to run my car and can't wait to go back with Dr or atleast my GSD3 and work on my 60', try to get them down to 2.0 while also powershifting. Give me some feedback i would love to hear what everyone says!!! Thanks

Well Arizona is blazingly hot. Most of the guys on here don't know what heat is, and are running at tracks that have better weather conditions. For your first run I think you did well. You should be able to get it to run in the high 13's w/ a 2.2 or less 60', judging by your mph. You're most likely spinning the tires cause they suck. Your buddies tires probably grip better would be my guess.

Let us know how you do on your next track attempt. I'm betting high 13's at 103mph.

I am the guy with the trans am. He was actually useing the exact same tires as I was. We had taken off my front two and traded them for his crappy spare set that he was running out back. They aren't great tires but that doesn't explain why he was spinning 3rd and 4th, besides the clutch that wasn't slipping.

hey watsup, i was that pewter z-28 right next too you

i was running about the same times best run was 13.9 @ 102 with 2.2 60 ft

with that mph you shoud me mid-high 13s for sure with traction

I just got my 4.10s in yesterday still breaking them in but can tell traction is going to be an issue lol

you going to the track again this week?

so the 4.10s will have more of an affect on traction then making more power?

gears don't give you any power there is actually a slight parasitic(sp) power loss , they just keep you in the power range and basically spin the tire more

i believe its 1 rotation of driveshaft will make your tires rotate ~3.42 times with 342s and 4.10 times with 410s

The 4.10 gearing in my car is a definite advantage over the stock 3.42 gearing, street tire or not. I usually get a good car length on people outta the hole (Raced automatic Z28's before with better results now out of the hole). I still have yet to hit the track with the new 4.10's, but can tell you with 100% confidence that I will get alot better 60' time with them (You don't have to bog the launch w/ the 4.10's, though you do have to shift alot more).

I'm hoping to improve upon my last run of 13.1 @ 109mph (2000 DA) with the new gears. I still dunno how you are spinning 4th gear though (BTW alot of people w/ the stock gearing clear the 1/4 mile at the top of 3rd while hiitting the limiter).
