My stock 98 Z28 smoked a 04 Cobra
Hey guys today I went to the track with my basically stock 98 z28, I only got 2 runs, my best time was 8.7 at 81mph my 60 ft was 1.8 on those two runs I smoked an 04 Cobra bad, he first ran a flat 9.0 then a 9.4 he had pretty bad tire spin. Also I ran last season 3 times in one day and in those 3 times I ran the same 8.8 at 81mph. So my question to yall is how much horsepower do yall think I have and also how can I increase my mph without much modifications???

yes I know the Cobra owner sucks at driving but I doubt he would beat me really bad, but anyways i got 2.73 gears, would a ls6 intake lower my e.t and higher mph. Also how fast is an 04 Cobra with a good driver at the 1/8 mile. Supposely the guy i raced said that he has gone 8.3

I'd keep the stock gearing if you want to keep the gas mileage at where it is. If you start adding gears it's not gonna shave that much time from your 1/4 mile. A stall converter will make a huge difference.
The LS6 intake manifold is useful. You'll add between 5-10whp with it. It's when you start modding that the gains are more significant with it.
Honestly it doesn't seem like your car is doing all that bad getting off the line, with a 1.8 sec. 60'. Sounds to me like you need more power then anything, as your car is charging hard out of the hole. You sure your car doesn't already have a stall converter? Anyways, get some long tube headers, lid, catback and a tune, and you'll be making 335-345whp. You shouldn't have any problem snarfing stock cobras even with good drivers then.
A stock Cobra, with a good driver, could run a 8.4 sec. 1/8th mile IMHO. He'd have to be pretty good at driving though. Sounds to me like that guy is full of it, and most likely just posting what some other person got for times.

It was a track in Dallas tx, he had a grey 04 Cobra, and also im also impressed with the 60ft myself, maybe because I got new tires on my 18' c5 wheels, so my next modifications would be an ls6 intake with a good ported throttle body, peasseater headers, cam, stall, should that get me into the 7's in the 1/8

If a cobra can drop his 60' to 2.0-2.1 he can still ran mid to high 12s stock. Personally I've seen couple of them runnin low 12s with only filter and catback.

I have a 2.73 car as well, and it ran 13.2 with a loudmouth. And a 8.55 1/8. Get a stall and you will have a chance with the cobra on the street, otherwise that guy will rape your ***, especially from a roll (unless he really can't drive and misses gears).
It just depends on what type of racing you want to do. If you race 1/8 more often I would change the gear or rearend for that matter to a 3.42, or 3.73 (not too darastic), and go with a good stall too. If you want to do more 1/4 mile, I'd keep the gear, but still go with the stall to help out the 60ft.
Oh, and the cobra wouldn't beat you alittle, it would rape you!!!! There freakin fast on the street, and I don't plan on waisting anymore gas trying too keep up with em'. When I get a stall, I'll be looking for the two that made me look like an idiot back at home..... I can beat them at the track all day long, but when it comes to street racing, their fast!

with a 2.0 60', thanks to Nitto 555Rs. I ran a 8.520 @ 86 mph when I was bone stock.. That cobra would smoke you stock for stock. Really... , the Cobra can acheive 8.3s or better bone stock, if a pro drove it....
Oh Im a 6 speed 2002 Z28 FYI

Actually I would probably do better if I didn't listen to everyone telling me my 10 bolt is gonna self destruct at the track. It makes me worried, which takes me off of my game plan. I'll run again on February 10. I'm also not at sea level, so I dunno what my times would be corrected.
