Default My 2003 Viper at the strip

Hi guys....I wrecked my 2003 Viper SRT10 back in january 2008.. I then sold it to a friend who rebuilt it to look like a 2008 Viper...

He just took the car to a drag strip and is giving me the play by play...

The car has
-roller rockers
-cat back
-cold air intake
-470 rwhp and 500 rwt SAE

His first pass so far was a 12.3 at 118 mph off a 2.0 60 ft..

even though she's not mine anymore Im very excited to see what she can do.. After around 40 runs with my FX2 timer I was able to run 11.7-12.0 at 120-124 mph...

Im really hoping he can back up those numbers at the actual drag strip. So far though not bad...

Wish me..ERRR I mean my friend luck..LOL

BTW....I might be buying the car back next month

Well...He went 2 more times but couldnt beat the 12.3 at 118 mph....

But it's kool because 30 differant guys here in hawaii went and ferried their vehicles to another island and rented the drag strip for a day in maui...

My ex Viper was the fastest car their!!!!!!!!!!!

Maui raceway park...elevation close to seal level with an 85 degree temp..

470 rwhp SRT10=12.3 at 118 mph ( on 20 inch street tires)
1000 rwhp Supra=12.4 at 123 mph ( on drag radials)
450 rwhp E55 AMG=12.5 at 111 mph ( on the stock tires)

All in all Im happy but I just hope next time they rent the track at night time in kooler weather

What's up with the crap mph for the hp? I'd expect the ET to be off, but not the mph.

Agreed with ScreaminRedZ. That trap should be much higher for that kind of power even though the street tires are gonna keep the ET from being too impressive.

He's running street tires with 470rwhp and 500rwtq. Of course his trap is gonna be way high, but it's actually much lower than it should be.

Well when I had the viper I practiced my but off and could go 11.8-12.1 at 120-122 mph ( best was 11.7 at 124 mph)..My FX2 timer was verified for acurracy at an actual drag strip by me...

I was racingin 65-70 degree weather at night on the stock 19 inch tires with 480 rwhp SAE....

The new owner put cats back on the car taking the power from 480 rwhp to 465 rwhp. He then took off the stock 19's and put on 20 inch tires reducing the 3.07 rear end to a 28x rear end gear..

Then factor in the 85 degree temps and Im honestly surprised he hit the 118 mph trapp speed..

A close buddy of mine took his stock C6Z06 to the same track in kooler weather at night and ran 12.8 at 117-119 mph...

After practice and adding drag radials he dropped it to a 12.1 at 121 mph...

So as you can see this is NOT a fast track..All Hawaii tracks are very slow due to the heat and CRAZY humidity

I figured the tracks weren't that fast and had something to do with it.

Even with those things factored in the 118 is slow. The 121 sounds right with all that working against him. It was probably his driving and he got use to the car.

Well if you spin enough even your mph can drop by as much as 10mph (ive seen lots of this, to much time spent at track).

So i can see that happening.

But 1000 horses should be well into the mid 100s...maybe higher.

As far as the Supra goes, just because the owner claims it makes that much doesn't mean it does. And if it really does, then I wouldn't go bragging about it if I were him since it obviously can't back it up, lol.

The Supra has dynoed 1K on a few differant dyno jets..He has trapped 126 mph a few times..But he's running drag radials and spinning a lot.. I think that once he gets some slicks on he'll be in the 130-140 mph range...

BUT CHECK THIS OUT GUYS...AT THE SAME TRACK AN OLDER GENTLEMAN WHO HAS BEEN RACING HIS C6Z06 BONE STOCK AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE RAN AN 11.8 AT 125 MPH!!!!!!!!!! my friend has trapped a best of 122 at the same track in his C6Z06..So yea i think you guys are right..Mostly the drivers

With 1000rwhp, if that Supra is only trapping 130's on slicks then the driver needs to kill himself.

With 1,000 horsepower to the wheels, he better be trapping 160ish or he needs to sell the car. No questions asked.

Hey now guys.....It's not as easy as you think...Is the car capable of hitting 150 mph plus...Probally. But how many of us have the skills/***** to get a 150 mph trapp speed in a 1/4 mile???????

he's just an average guy whos trying to tame a monster that he created all at once instead of peice by peice...

easy to talk the talk guys....Ive trapped in the low 120's a few times in my ex SRT10 and when you go from 97 mph at the 1/8 to 123 mph at the end of the 1/4 mile that last half of the track gets scary fast..

I can only imagine 130..140 or 150 mph plus takes some serious *****. Cut him some slack...he'll learn the car. he's only got about 10 passes in the Supra

I'll take it down the track for him anytime he wants.

All I'm saying is that if the car is making anywhere near 1,000rwhp, it should be capable of easy 150-160 trap speeds or higher and if he's only hitting 120s, something is wrong, even with a not so decent driver. Is he letting off at the end because he's scared of the speeds? That's what it sounds like you're saying.

And going from 97 to low 120s in the 1/4 is not exactly what I'd call scary. Maybe 140s on a low pressure bias ply that's walking around on you but not 120s. If 97 in the 1/8 to 120s in the 1/4 scares you, you're in the wrong sport and are probably going to crash you're car at some point....

.....or cars.....

I do 120 mph every other day ...LOL...and I agree it would be hard to get a car with 600 whp to trap that low, let alone 1,000 wheel hp.

These same big power Supra guys have no problem street racing to 150 mph, but as soon as they get on a track in a safe environment then they get scared?
