Who's running Weld Pro Stars on 4th Gen Trans Am
I have a 2000 Trans Am WS6 and I plan on buying a set of Weld Pro Stars. I am looking at 15x3.5 in the fronts with 1.75" back spacing. What thickness wheel spacers do I need to make sure they don't rub the calipers?
For the Rear, I am looking at 15x10 with 7.5" back spacing. What size Mickey Thompson DR can I get under the fender without rubbing? I was told I should get a 27-28" tall tire. I just want to know whats best. I know I will have to grind down the rear calipers for the wheels to fit the rear. I have 3.73 gears. Do I need longer wheel studs for these wheels?

If your going to run a spacer in the front then yes I'd suggest ARP 3.250" 12mm studs. Remember for these your going to need OPEN end 12mm lug nuts. For the rears you should be fine as far as passing tech goes, without the ARP studs, but I'd suggest them anyways, it never hurts. I believe I ran a 5/16th spacer on the front of mine before I got my Greg Welds, I will check today at the shop though. 3.73s are not alot of gear, depending on where you shift your car, your best be is to stay with a 26 or 27 inch tall tire. I ran a 275/60/15 (28") M/T DR on my car with no rubbing issues at all, and now have 325/50/15s and they still don't rub unless I hit a big bump. You will have to massage your inner fender well with a hammer for these, though its not a big deal. I plan to roll my fender lips also.

Here is a link.... this should help clarify.
To be honest, I am going to be buying Centerline Convo pros for a few reasons.....
1) They are light too
2) Durable
3) No brake caliper grinding
4) Cheaper then Bogarts and as cost effect as a weld
http://www.freewebs.com/casper9t9/dragwheelinfo.htm
this is what you need to do to get it to work
I fear taking that much meterial off, may make it not that safe for regular street use.

I also ran Centerline Convo Pro's..But Didn't like them for three reasons.
1) They are about the ugliest wheel you can get
2) They are ALOT heavier than Weld Prostars
3) They don't come in the right backspace, they stick out and give it that sweet "1973 Check out my Cragar SS's on my 84 Camero" look
Things I did like.
1)They fit without any grinding
However, I suggest if your not looking to grind, you just do it right and buy the Billet Specialties or Bogarts. Both are great wheels.
For my rear 15x10 7.5 backspace prostars, I had to grind this much:
Oh, and the Spacer was just on there from the wheels I had on it before.

As for weight, I will go get a scale and weigh them but I would beleive they are compariable. A weld SHOULD be lighter, but how much will depend, the rims/tire combo I have access to is a 26" M/T Et Drag and a street tire up front on the 4" skinny.
Also it is not all that safe to have the wheel stick out like that as for trying to launch the car, wider the stance, the squirlier the tires get, AND that's as Joe Dirt as it gets.
To get it to fit, Properly, you will need to do ALOT of grinding or spend the $$$ for a Bogart that can bend on the street, and at most times gets dented or bent when changing tires so I hope you have a good guy who knows how to mount a tire on such a paper thin rim.

I already stated that he is going to want ARP studs on all four corners. I did compare my centerlines to my prostars, off hand I do not remember how much the diff was, but it was a good deal. Each static pound is just shy of 3 pounds when converted into rolling mass. Ceneterlines just do not fit, they have the wrong backspace. Thats why I prefer a Weld, Billet Specialties, or Bogart. They come in the correct backspace to tuck the wheel in, without the Joe Dirt stance. I like my Prostars, and I would personally go that route, with a 26" tire of your choice.

Wow! Bogarts and Billet Specialties are very expensive. What about the Weld Pro Stars? Are they worth it? I can get ARP studs and grind down the rear calipers. The cheapest I have found Weld's are on eBay brand new. The MT DR 275/50r15 are 26.1" in diameter, will those work with a 15x10" wide Weld wheel with 7.5" backspacing?

If your willing to do the work that is required, you will not be dissapointed.
What I and other posted have pointed out there are options, some require grinding, while others do not.
Just be safe about it and understand what your doing and you will be fine.
