Default Drag Racing Helmet Question

I'm going to the strip for the first time and Sacramento Raceway's site says I need an SFI approved Helmet. I have a Motorcycle helmet like this one...

...that says DOT approved on the back. Can I use this? I've been searching SFI helmets but I'm not getting anywhere. Have you guys ever used a motorcycle helmet like this either?

Thanks Guys! Prey for 12.9 for my time, LOL

DOT will not work. It has to have the snell label inside the helmet. snell2000 is the oldest one that is allowed. new helmets will be snell 2005.

I have used a motorcycle helmet like the Oneal one you have pictured. I didn't like using it due to the meterial around my face. I took the shield off but it was still bulky. If you have the money, I would buy an open faced helmet but if you don't the closed face will work.

lol, at my track I just use my friends dirtbike helmet or my friends helmet from his street bike. I don't see what the big deal is, those helmets are obviously made to protect your head and im pretty sure a bike is going to be going faster then the car anyways

I was told I need a Snell 2009 rating. Again, no DOT.

sa2005 is the minimum i believe.
if its just test and tune, you may get away with any helmet depending on the track.
make sure its a 31.1 rating if you buy one.
the cheaper 41.1 ratings are not for door cars. they are for bikes.

Never heard this 31.1 vs 41.1

what??

Just stick with a Snell SA2005 and you'll be good for any type of aut oracing you want to do.

Snell 2000 rated helmets are NHRA approved until 1/1/2012. Snell 2005's are good until 1/1/2017.

31.1 is flame retardant for being in the cockpit.
41.1 is NON flame retardant.

you get stict tech, they may boot you.
just explaining the options.
a plastic bowl will work at some tracks, so im not preaching here, ust providing info.
EDITED!

One thing to consider for those using motorcycle helmets. These helmets are designed basically for one impact and not the continuous bashing against a roll bar or the inside of your car. Not preaching, as I have used my motorcycle helmet in the car too, just something to keep in mind.

Thats the part I'd worry about hitting my head on if I had one. Most people dont have FIA certified seats in their cars with roll bars or seat braces.. so if you get into a bad accident your seat can crush like tin foil as you flop around and you deff can get brained by your own roll bar.

in a crash, yes, your helmet may hit multiple times, but you dont have to have "certified seats" to save your ***.
the ticket is having your belts correctly mounted and installed on the driver.
thats ultimately going to predict the outcome.
i hope not to be bashing and flopping around when im buckled in.

I was just trying to point out a difference in helmet design, not convince anyone what to use. Some people don't know the difference, and may appreciate the information. I did when I learned many years ago.
