Default Driveshaft Play Question

How much maximum play (bumper to bumper) would be recommended for a drive shaft under static conditions (vehicle at rest and suspension loaded). I currently have a drive shaft that could slip into the transmission output by another 1.5 inches on the slip yoke side. Is this too much?

3/4 to 1" is what most DS makers recommend. How much spline engagement do you have?
